Hi I'm 57 and was on 3pumps oestrogel and 100mg ultrogeston continuous which I take vagnialy I felt great until a few weeks ago and started bleeding quite heavy and it went on for 10 days I knew everything was ok as I had recently had scans and a polyp removed as was given the all clear to go back on the Hrt, my gp told me to double up on the ultrogeston the bleeding stopped by day 3 but I feel dreadful drained hard to get going but also really bad lower back pain , could the back pain be caused by the higher dose of ultrogeston I want to try and cut the dosage back to 100mg but worried bleeding will restart but I feel dreadful at the moment any suggestions please I've had enough

It sounds like 3 pumps of gel (higher than the usual 2) and only 100mg Utrogestan isn't working for you which is why you have bleeding.

Have you tried using 2 pumps of gel?

Your Gps advice is right- it's what is suggested.

If you can't tolerate that amount, maybe you need to consider a different type of HRT (patches?) or the Mirena + gel?

OR you could go back to a sequential regime of 200mgs x 12 days and get a regular, monthly bleed.

I use 200mgs vaginally and cant say it's fun but it's for 12 days at a time (am a lot older than you but still use it on a cycle.)

The back pain might be related as progesterone is known to relax ligaments and muscles.

No idea if this is even an option but could you take the mini pill continuously as well as take 100mg utrogestan to control the bleeding? This is what I do although I’m only 41 so maybe age makes a difference re the pill I’m not sure. I take 100mg utrogestan every night, the mini pill and 3-4 pumps of oestrogel and I haven’t had a period for about 8 years now and no bleeding.

Hi JinglingHellsBells yes ive tried 2 pumps with 100mg the reason i upped to 3 is the the the body aches aa i have oestroarthritus all my joints were hurting, anyway ive decided to drop back down to 100mg see what happens cant keep feeling like this iim not getting nothing done no motivation and im getting snappy with people, im going try dropping back down to 2 pumps aswell hopefully the aches wont come back do you think that might help this be my last chance now if it dont work then i might have to try something else, i used to be on kliofem but gp said the gel is safer hrt so asked me to change as i was waiting for a polyp to be removed, shes now saying i can go back on it if gel dont work but im scared to be honest
