I’m posting here for my mum as she doesn’t use mumsnet.

My mum is 53 and has been perimenopausal for a couple of years now. Her last period was in June 2021. Today she has come on what feels and looks like a period. Does she need to ring the doctor? I know menopause isn’t confirmed after a full 12 months without a period, but she isn’t just spotting its actual blood.

If she's worried then she should ring.

I believe the standard is 12 months .. but it seems periods can return after quite a long gap. Mine came back after 15+ months!

It's probably all very normal, if annoying.

I believe

Your Mum is having a period.

No need to see her Dr. This is all absolutely normal in peri.

Even after 11 months some women start theirs all over again.

The rule is bleeding after 12 months needs discussing and even then it's almost always just a hormonal blip.
