Bleeding on HRT

Hi, I’ve been on HRT since the beginning of February. Oestrogen gel daily, with 25 days of utrogestan and 5 days off. About a week into the second cycle I started bleeding, and haven’t stopped! Over 2 weeks now.

I spoke to the practice pharmacist and she said it should settle down, but it hasn’t. I have an appointment with the GP next week.

Overall I feel much better on HRT so don’t want to stop. I took the progesterone only pill for years without any issues,

Has anyone else experienced this, and how was it dealt with? I don’t want a Mirena (I had vulval cancer a few years ago so have very low tolerance of people interfering with my vagina!)

If you're post meno (a year post last period) you take utrogestan continuously, every day so no bleeding.

If you're peri and still having periods you take it for a a few days something like 12 or 15 every month on certain days (someone else will specify) and you then have a monthly bleed.

Thanks, but that was not what my GP prescribed - I guess it may move onto that

Are you post meno? I believe they used to prescribe 25days but now the practise is continuous.
Difficult when a gp prescribes differently though! just obviously get them to check when you see them.

It depends on how your periods were before you started HRT.
If they had not stopped altogether, then it sounds as if you are having a normal period now which is not being controlled by the hrt.

If your periods had not stopped then in any case you should not be on the combined continuous regime but on a cyclical regime, which is 12 days of progesterone in a calendar month, same days each month ( ie 1st Feb, 1st March) to give a regular withdrawal bleed. In time this will reset your own cycles so you get one predictable bleed every month.

Also, most specialists now are advising women using a continuous regime to take the progesterone ever day (not 25) so it's the same as in patches and tablets. Although the leaflet says 25 days most drs say a break is unnecessary.

Thanks - my periods were very irregular so that probably didn’t help. I’ll see what she says next week

Hi all. I started HRT 6 months ago. I was on progesterone for 14 days each month and oestrogel every day. I was on 4 pumps a day. All went well for the first 4 months. But then I started bleeding whilst I was taking my progesterone not after. This happened for two months in a row. Back to the docs and she has told.me to take the progesterone for 25 days and have a 5 day break. Only 8 days in and I am bleeding again already. I am going to try and reduce my estrogen to see if that helps but wondered if anyone else had this happen and what helped? I will be going back to my doctor if nothing changes in the next month but thought would see if this is common. Thanks

Funnily enough I was just about to post something similar.. 3mths in, using the gel and daily tablet, with no break, and this morning I have woken up to find I've had some bleeding.. not had a period for over 2yrs, and was taking cerelle for years with no unusual bleeding. Reading the replies on this post, hopefully it will settle, but it was a bit of a surprise this morning!

Did you ever get your Hrt issues resolved? As sounds similar to mine.
