Perimenopause, Covid and anxiety

I’m 47 and I’ve been having growing anxiety, insomnia, brain fog and rage for the last 6-9 months. I went on HRT six weeks ago and also took two weeks off work (work v stressful and long hours) and since then things have been better, not perfect, but it’s definitely taken the edge off. Less anxious, better sleep though still wake early and generally more able to cope daily. But I got Covid at the weekend and I feel like I’ve gone backwards. Anxiety has peaked, feel very tired but also wired so wake up in the night with heart racing feeling like I’ve had two cups of coffee! Has anyone else had Covid and found this? Hoping it won’t last too long. Also not helping is DD14 who is having problems at school with friends and it’s a battle every day to get her to school, one which I was able to cope with pre Covid but I don’t have the energy this week at all. Grateful for any advice or just kind words please to get me through the next few days!

Sorry to hear. My friends and I are a similar age and have all had Covid in the last 3 months or so, with a range of lingering symptoms including anxiety and fatigue. Hang in there though, everyone seems to get better within about a month or less.

Thanks @bluejelly that’s good to know. Will hang in there.

I am on HRT and it has been transformational in terms of my anxiety but I have just had covid and I feel like it has hit my like a train again. Constant fluttering of my heart, palpitations, impending doom.

No advice - just to say I am the same.

@Jjcrackers with you in solidarity. I’m on day 8 of Covid and it’s improved a bit but still getting palpitations and on edge. I’ve heard it takes two or three weeks to go. I’m also so tired still. Was feeling better yesterday so I hung out the washing and did a bit of gardening but I was so exhausted after I went back to bed for a couple of hours. I’m back at work today after a few days off sick last week and I reckon I’ll be having a nap at lunchtime to get me through, I didn’t expect to be so floored by Covid. Hope you’re doing ok.

I have long Covid (8 months of it so far) plus I'm in peri still (age 52) but can't take HRT because I'm high risk for breast cancer. It's miserable. Managed to get a NHS referral to a menopause clinic but so many meno symptoms are also long Covid issues that it's impossible to tell the difference so all we can do is wait and try again in 6 months. I'm just ploughing through it but harbour fantasies of someone shooting me and putting me out of my misery.
