3 months on HRT and bleeding again a week after my period!?

Hello,

I recently strated HRT 2 pumps of Oestrogel and 12 days of Utrogestan in January this year. I tried to time the end of the Utrogestan course to coincide with my natural cycle on the first month but this didn't quite work and my period came early before I'd finished the course. The next month the same happened. By the 3rd month a week ago - my period came even earlier in the course of Utrogestan.
I stopped taking Utrogestan on Thursday and today (Sunday) now have awful back ach and cramps and have just noticed a small bleed! Is this normal? I'm wondering if this is the bleed I am supposed to have after finishing the Utrogestan - but I already had my period a week ago. I don't know whether something more sinister is going on as I have never bled unusually like this in between periods.

Also - I have just increased the oestrogel pumps from 1 to 2 pumps the last month as my peri symptoms didn't seem to be easing. Should I see my GP or is this something that might settle?

It should settle.

It's normal to have odd bleeding in the first few months especially during peri. You will also almost always start bleeding after the course of Utrogestan, and sometimes this will happen even though you have had your own period simply because some of the lining has built up again.

My own experience of this was that I started HRT quite late in peri (I was almost 53) and my periods had become months apart, so I didn't experience what you are. However, I do know from other women that what you are seeing is normal- it's only 3 months and that's very early days with HRT.

Thanks for your reply. That does sound reassuring! So I guess I should just hold tight.
I'm wondering though, if my period should eventually sync up with the end of the course of Utro, or would it be more advisable to shift the time when I start it to earlier to try and make this happen, as at the mo my period is now arriving approx a week before the end of the course.

Wondering how you are getting on? I came on here to look for answers to the same issue. On my fourth month of same regimen and am having two bleeds a month. Not fun, but the other peri side effects have gone, so hope it settles down.
