Evorel 50 patch and utrogestan

Has anyone successfully used this combination and not bled post menopause?

I was on the 75 patch and utrogestan but it made me bleed all too frequently. I’ve had all the necessary checks and nothing sinister has been found.

I’ve since switched to femeston Conti oral but feel that the Oestrogen isn’t quite sufficient or that I’m not absorbing it quite as well as the patch. My downstairs area is also a bit sore despite using local Oestrogen pessaries and cream.

I’ve been on the femeston for nearly 8 weeks and have a blood test in just over a week to check absorption.

I thinking of switching to the 50 patch but scare of bleeding again.

It had been recommended that I try the Mirena coil but too scared!

Thanks

Whether you use a patch or tablet estrogen ought not to affect bleeding. The 'culprit' is the Utrogestan which has a variable absorption rate especially when used orally.

Have you tried it vaginally? Is that an option given you'd need to do it daily? It's better absorbed that way.

If not, you could try it orally at night WITH FOOD.

The guidance says take without food. Reason being- food gives higher absorption. That can give some women more side effects (sedation maybe ) BUT it can be helpful re. absorption.

Also, you are on a high dose of estrogen and it may be that you need 200mgs Utrogestan daily, not 100mgs to control bleeding. Can you not get symptom relief on less?

These higher doses for women who bleed are discussed on a paper by the British Menopause Society (Jan 22.)

Thanks jingling.
Yes utrogestan is the culprit re the bleeding. It just isn’t sufficient at 100mg to control bleeding. 200mg and I’m feeling groggy and spaced out.

I have tried to use internally but it makes me sore.

My MS wants me on a low dose of O, due to BC history. So 1mg femeston for 8 weeks now. Mood isn’t bad, but sleep and bladder issues aren’t great ( despite vagifem / Ovestin).
It seems I need the higher dose of patch plus the local oestrogen to avoid bladder issues and remain stable. But with that, comes bleeding with pain every 2/3 weeks.
