Ok so up until the last 6 months everything has been reasonably regular. Then my periods became quite irregular but still more or less monthly. My last period was now 50 days ago. In other peoples experience am I likely to have another one? If so will this be at the time a period was expected or will it be just at any random time? Also I feel hot often but it doesn't feel like other people have described hot flushes - i'm just hot. What should I be doing? Taking? Nothing feels bad enough for GP - I just need some friendly advice? Thanks

It sounds as if you are entering the menopause, not quite there yet but it's coming. Periods can stop instantly, or just gradually phase out - after 50 days it's hard to say which one is happening for you. You might have a few more random periods , it's impossible to know.

Same with the hot flushes - they are normally more than just feeling hot, when you get a full flush you'll know about it. I still get them after many years, it's like you're in a suana , so hot , sweat just pouring off you, sheets soaked so you have to get up and change the bed , have a shower and try to get back to sleep . Or during the day, same thing but it's worse if you're at work or out somewhere and you have sweat pouring off your face and down your arms, ugh !

My advice would be, wait and see how things happen. You might sail through it with no bad symptoms, or things might get pretty bad and you'll need to think about HRT. See how it goes, and in the meantime if you're still sexually active, keep up the contraception "just in case". Good luck !

@justasimplelife not everyone gets sweats like that, my DM claims she didn’t. I just get hot in bed and get some sweat in my cleavage as I lie on my side. My periods started changing in my late 40 s . I’d skip one occasionally then last year I was skipping two, then had two, skipped two and so on. My last one was November now so that’s nearly 4 missed and I’m not sure if that’s it or if they will start again. I’m 51.

Not everyone gets the full range of symptoms. And if they are bad enough to stop you sleeping , working or coping generally, maybe look into HRT as well as lifestyle changes to help. No need to suffer when a treatment is available.
