Has anyone come off HRT & felt better?

I've been in it 6 months.
Initially it was really amazing & got rid of my aches & pains overnight.
Mood swings much improved too.
But despite increasing oestrogen for the last couple of months, i feel symptoms creeping back.
I'm anxious.
Pains are back.
And I'm hugely bloated with very sore breasts on the progesterone, despite taking vaginally.
I'm 46 and peri. Still have regular periods.
I'm wondering about stopping to see how it feels.

I've tried HRT on two occasions now (I'm 51). Realised that although there were some initial benefits, they didn't last, and on balance I feel better off it than on it. Everyone is different - I prefer to think of it as a life transition that I will work through.

Electra feel the same here. Not amazing for me either. Felt quite heavy in my clothes too. Just my own experience.

Would you mind letting me know how your journey has since March? I am feeling aweful and not sure wether to stop. 🥲

Changed my HRT to patches for a while but that didn't really help... boobs became massive.

Just weaned myself off and stopped for a month, felt slimmer and much less bloated but my joint pain was really bad.

Just slapped a 1/2 patch back on and feel huge after 4 days 🙈😢

I feel better off it

Indigotree · 31/07/2023 21:12

Is bloating and weight gain an hrt thing? I've been on oestrogel with the coil for just over a year, was still having periods and it was more to treat my pmdd than anything. It's been amazing, best time of my life no longer having severe depression half the time. But I do feel plump!

Mary46 · 01/08/2023 09:28

Doctors will say no link but everyone on posts here about weight gain. Im off it a while I dont feel as bloated now. My weight was up too. Patches

@Orchid18 Im in Spain too, I see a private gynecologist- GP useless. I use the gel and cyclogest for progesterone.

Flockameanie · 01/08/2023 21:57

I tried it for 3 months, but it made me feel terrible (gel + progesterone pills). I became increasingly anxious on the oestrogen days. And absolutely sunk into the depths of darkness on the progesterone days. I was bleeding eratially. I put on masses of weight in a very short period (diet and exercise the same). I felt horrible in my body.

I came off it, had a couple of weeks of a wild hormonal rollercoaster and then felt loads better and have continued to feel that way since then (this was about a year ago). I haven't had a period since (and hadn't had one for six months prior to starting HRT) so think I'm through menopause now.

I think I do much better without the hormones! I realised that I always felt best in my menstrual cycle the day my period started (i.e. when hormone levels were at their lowest).

I realise I may be a bit of an anomoly here. Everyone is different. But HRT certainly isn't the magic cure-all some (on here, and elsewhere) tout it to be

Agree Flock havent found it amazing. Then weight piled on. Felt doctor was saying its amazing.. I gave it a good go but no not for me. My clothes fit better too now

CeciNestPasUnPipi · 02/08/2023 12:10

It may have been the HRT; or it could also be the need to adjust dosage because hormones fluctuate over perimenopause.

Needspace2023 · 24/03/2024 01:03

I've just come off HRT: evorel 50and utrogestan 100 because I have discovered I have fibroids and these were likely making it worse. I'm 45 and have regular periods but had a string of other symptoms: hot flashes, brain fog and hair falling out. These stopped with the HRT but I've been piling on weight and feeling anxious and depressed and periods seemed to be getting heavier and more painful.
I'm hoping these initial symptoms can be managed with lifestyle.
I feel loads better and lighter so far but it's been less than a month, so fingers crossed.
If there are any supplements that you can recommend I'd be very grateful.
I think if I do restart HRT it will be further down the line when my periods are reducing .

I'm thinking of stopping tomorrow

Yes been off it and feel better.
I have switched to a low carb way if eating and taking some supplements, under the guidance of a dietary therapist.

Trying to build weights in too. I feel much better. Less brain fog, less achy, less inflammation, less period pains.

Actually had some tests done which showed my oestrogen was at a normal level. So maybe that's why the HRT started making me feel bad.

I should say that without the above lifestyle changes I would still feel terrible. Anxiety has pretty much gone.
