Joint pain

Started oestrogen patches a few months back. Sleep is so so much better. Still fairly unhinged but suspect that’s work/life stress.

I’m also fat. The size of a whale. Stress reaction is to eat. I have no will power whatsoever but I’d like to move a bit more but I hurt all over. The less I move the more it flipping hurts, but when I move more it really really bloody hurts. My joints are so bloody sore at the mo. Both elbows, heels and ankles, wrists. So I’ve turned into a blob that hurts whether I move or not, but having not moved much for so long I can’t without hurting even more.
Where do I even start and how do I stop the joints hurting so much?

Start swimming OP.
It helps SO much.

I ache too. Feel like I'm a nana. I'm average size & started the gel about 6 weeks ago. Think I'll ask the Dr about it when I have my review.
I used to be very active, but now Feel old! Bodily, not mentally.
Swimming is good & also helps with work stress. Maybe give it a go.

Have you thought about seeing your dr about this? It could be a form of arthritis and the sooner it's treated the better to stop it getting worse. You might need x rays and blood tests.

If it's not some form of inflammatory illness it might be wear and tear caused by weight.

What can you do to get control of your weight?
A weight coach?
Personal trainer?
Counselling or CBT to help change your behaviour of comfort eating?
Gym sessions with a trainer?

@GoodyAlsop My menopause specialist told me to rub magnesium oil into my skin for my achey bones,
Not where the aches and pains are but just generally as it's better absorbed then via the stomach

Bagelsandbrie · 15/04/2022 11:08

I agree that this level of pain is not normal for menopause related pain. Sounds like rheumatoid arthritis or even something lupus / fibromyalgia related. You need to ask for a referral to rheumatology.

Nickersnackersnockers · 16/04/2022 14:46

What dosage of patch are you on?. Joint pain is a well known issue related to the menopause. It may be that you just need to up your dose. I have had arthritis for 30 odd years but knew my hip pain was not arthritis. It was waking me in the night and the pain was enough to prevent me getting off back to sleep. I upped my patch and the hip pain disappeared.

Hi just wondering if anyone out there has had good success with any particular supplements/ exercises/diet changes to help with stiff joints?
1 year ago I was fit as a fiddle then peri hit and it takes me half an hour to get my body moving in the morning. I'm fine all day at work (active job) then after sitting down for 10 minutes in evening I'm all stiff again and can barely walk up the stairs.
My knees, ankles, hands, shoulders and elbows and the worst parts. In the night I have aching deep in both shoulders and have to turn over every 10 minutes to relieve it so I wake constantly.
I've been on HRT (mirena and evorel 50 patches) for 2 months now but no improvement yet at all.
Any advice gratefully received!

SmiledWtherisingsun · 08/05/2022 21:47

Oestrogen helped me initially.
Woke up after one day & nothing hurt.
But it's come back.
Upped dose didn't work.
😢

Parsley1234 · 08/05/2022 22:06

@SmiledWtherisingsun that’s a blasters sorry to hear that

SmiledWtherisingsun · 08/05/2022 22:08

@Parsley1234 it was weird. Like a totally miraculous removal of all pain & stiffness immediately. I really want it to come back! Still have some more HRT tweaking to try 🙏

Nickersnackersnockers · 17/05/2022 17:52

If your symptoms improve on estrogen but then return I think your dose needs upping. It's quite common for that to happen I believe.

TomAllenWife · 17/05/2022 18:01

@JinglingHellsBells can you expand on what they do for arthritis

I have in my thumbs and little finger which is becoming worse with the menopause
Oestrogen just made me bleed so I stopped that

Honestly with the craziness, bleeding, sweating and joint pain I feel like I'd rather be dead
