How do I get HRT at 39?

I'm 39 and absolutely convinced I am peri menopausal. Mum, nan, aunties and cousins all started in 30's.

Ive a coil in so hard to tell by periods, however i have the following symptoms:

  • increase in prevalence and severity of migraines, multiple per month
  • awful brain fog. I can be giving a presentation at work and just run out of words mid sentence
  • hot flushes
  • severe BO a few days a month, its horrible
  • horrible mood swings. Have just cried whilst ironing for no fucking reason at all

I feel like I am going mad.

GP is sympathetic and has sent me for bloods. But what happens if/when my FSH levels are normal?

I need hormones!!!!!

You are prescribed HRT based on symptoms and in your case family history.

If your GP won't agree, insist on seeing a menopause consultant.

Great that your GP is sympathetic and is doing FSH tests which is correct if under 45 and family history can also be a factor. Hormones can fluctuate massively in perimenopause. Under the NICE Menopause Guidelines you should be tested twice 4-6 weeks apart - see section 1.6.6 here: www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/chapter/Recommendations#diagnosing-and-managing-premature-ovarian-insufficiency

@YellowHpok The specialist clinic in the UK for premature ovarian failure (POF) is the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Women are referred from across the UK.

The consultants in that clinic have an established, national charity called the Daisy Network ( see online) and you can gain a lot of info and support there.

Thank you all, this is incredibly helpful. I had no idea about the FSH testing weeks apart
