Morning or night time

I've just picked up my first prescription for Utrogestan and Estradiol gel. The Utrogestan specifies that this should be taken at night time on an empty stomach. Is it best to apply the gel at the same time, in the morning, or does it make no difference? Thanks.

Reason for taking utrogestan at bedtime is it can cause a drop in blood pressure and make you dizzy.

You can use gel anytime.

You can also ignore the empty stomach 'rule'. I asked my consultant and the reason is more may be absorbed with food, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but in some women it may give slightly more side effects (if you were to get them anyway.)

I use oestrogen gel and topical cream in the mornings after I shower. I try not to use it at a time DH would get an accidental dose by sun contact.
It may not be an issue for everyone though.

I ignored the 'empty stomach' rule for Utrogestan once and bitterly regretted it as I felt dreadful the next day. Someone I knew did the same and felt very unwell too. I can get away with half a biscuit 30-60 mins before Utrogestan if I need something after my evening exercise but I wouldn't risk any more than that.

My GP said taking the utrogestan at night is good as it can make some women feel sleepy so might help with sleep. I put the gel on when I have a shower in the evening but occasionally in the morning instead if I have a shower then. I think as long as you mainly put the gel on around the same time each day it should be ok.
