HRT - Hair Loss

Hi, I have been on HRT for about 8 months now, 2 pumps of oestrogel and utrogestan for 14 days per month. I went on it as I was struggling a but, mainly as I had left full time employment 2019 and hadn't quite planned for Covid, so was a bit up in the air, work wise and was feeling very regretful that I have left where I was. Anyway, as I was feeling out of sorts, I decided to either get anti depressants or try HRT - I went on HRT, but in all honesty, I didn't have any other symptons apart from anxiety, so slept well, no night sweat. But what I have noticed, or think I have is that it has made my hair fall out, has anyone experienced this? I notice my scalp get get hot when I first started using the cream, I don't notice my scalp feeling hot now., but my hair is definitely much thinner.... I should just point out, I am NOT using the cream on my head ;o)

Bump, any similar experiences out there? Is hair loss common on HRT?

I know it's not much help, but my hair has got noticeably thicker and healthier since I started hrt last Aug. I'm only on oestrogen tablets if that makes any difference. Have you had your thyroid checked? I know that can effect your hair.

Thanks for replying, yes had some blood test, iron and bit d was a bit low so taking that at the moment. I had had any hair loss at all, it started when I started the HRT, I was aware of it right at the beginning, but thought maybe it would settle down, was my imagination. I'm thinking of stopping it, as I think I went on it as I was feeling quick panicked and anxious about life, but I think that was as much due to the fact that I wasn't working, regretted leaving my job of 16 years, (still do) and was just feeling pretty panicked and worried as to how I was going to survive financially, TBF, I am still a bit in this position, so maybe I shouldn't stop now.... Confused thanks for replying x

Hair loss can be a symptom of anaemia. If I was you I'd talk to your gp, see if they think changing hrt or starting iron supplements would reduce hair loss.

Thanks for replying, I am taking a prescription iron supplement at the moment and vit d, but I can't say I have noticed an improvement. I'm still not settled work wise, so over the last few days, with everything else going in, Ukraine, prices for everything going up, I'm thinking that coming of it might make me spiral a bit. I'll keep at it, and hope that the hair loss stops.

A pp mentioned Oestrogen, I have heard some birth control that contains oestrogen can cause hair loss so that could be the culprit. Although it's usually temporary. Might be worth speaking to your health provider about this as they might have alternative options.

Only just saw this reply. I actually ended up coming off HRT and then going back on it! I'm actually less aware of my hair at the moment, my HRT now is spray and progesterone, 1 tablet every day, before it was 2 tablets 14 day, I prefer the way I take it now, seems more even.... still have work nightmare/dilemmas though, often think of starting another thread on that. It hard to know of hair loss is due to getting older of the HRT - and it's horrible seeing the amount that comes out! Hope yours isn't too bad and settles down.
