Heart palpitations & heart burn

Last few days I've noticed an increasing fluttering/ palpitation sensation in my chest & short sharp heartburn like pains. Otherwise I'm totally fine & doing HIIT classes no problem etc.. I'm 47 so assuming this is yet another perimenopause symptom, I know it can be ... or is it? I'm aware it's started a couple of weeks after my booster jab too - could be related?? Would you go to docs about it? Really don't want to waste their time. thx

I mentioned similar symptoms (although mine started after catching covid) to my GP last week. I was given blood tests and an ECG and gave an appointment next week to discuss.
So clearly they thought it was worth me mentioning them!
I don’t know what the GP will say, obviously, but I’m glad I decided to talk to someone about it. I’m getting rather depressed about it, as it does impact my life.

Yep sounds similar to me although it's not sharp pains in my chest more like a tightness. My bloods and ECG were normal but it really is a very disconcerting feeling. Interestingly mine started after my first covid jab (as did the onset of panic attacks and horrendous anxiety).
Once the palpitations settled I noticed the tightness and reflux were cyclical so I take omeprazole when I need it and it does work.

I’m so glad I saw your message @NorthernNic I was having those same symptoms like what I could only describe as reflux & ‘tightness’ bloods & ECG were clear & I got a course of omeprazole which I’ve now finished.
I’m starting to wonder if it’s anxiety too - for reference I’ve just turned 50 & been on HRT about 3 years - I’m trying not to worry about it in case that makes it worse
Flowers for the fellow tight- chested!

Hi, reassuring to know others have similar.. I've not gone to doctors (or died yet!) - it comes & goes.. but agree it's prob reflux/ anxiety related. Fine in day when busy - five exercising.. usually in evening I notice it. I am already on omeprazole so prob is linked to reflux too. Waiting to see if it is linked to my cycle tho as all manner of strange symptoms seem to pop up each month these days!!!

Yes it's definitely reassuring to know you're not alone

Aquamarine1029 · 12/03/2022 23:18

It is absolutely most probably peri related, but any new, continuing chest pain should be investigated, and please get over the concern of wasting the doctor's time. You're not. You need to be seen to rule out any problems.

I hate to write this, as I am not anti-vax and a patient, not a doctor. I remembered these posts and since having myocarditis after an MRNA diagnosed realise my symptoms were similar. Strong heartburn-like pains which resolved in a few days and then palpitations were my main symptoms. Certainly I was not able to exercise - could barely make it out of bed and went to hospital. After a few weeks the bloodwork and ECG were normal, but it still showed on MRI. It has required ongoing treatment.

Walkden · 07/08/2022 17:29

Both symptoms are also a common effect of a covid infection.

It has required ongoing treatment, hence I am torn between letting others know and not becoming anti-vax fodder. Also my symptoms were very strong, so it may well be different.

Mine was anaemia. Felt a lot better on iron, and had a coil to reduce the bleeding.

Agreed and there has been research/articles in medical journals showing this post-Covid.

The myocarditis post-vax can be serious too and research is now showing this, but it is often still discussed on forums as this minor thing that goes away quickly. Hi I also had this a while ago. Am def peri menopause and I didn't have a clue what it was. Went to the docs for ecg and all fine. After reading about it, it is a symptom of menopause, and after about 6 to 8 months it just stopped!
