Morning all… I’ve finally got my HRT & I’m just wondering if anyone has any hints and tips?

Does the gel take a long time to dry? Do I put it all in one place or spear it all over my poor body?!

I’m absolutely stunned I’ve got this far to be honest. I’d love any advice or suggestions.

I put mine on my inner thighs, alternating each night. DON’T put it on your breasts! I think my consultant said tummy was fine too, and I’m sure I’ve read posts on here saying arms are also fine.

The patient info leaflet says insert thoughts and shoulders. People I used patches that could also be placed in the thighs or the buttocks, so I use a combination of thoughts (all over), buttocks and shoulder. I smear it as thin as possible, because otherwise it treasures forever to dry. I apply it as soon as I get out of the shower and have dried myself, so it dries while I'm doing the rest of my bathroom stuff.

One tip- you can apply the dose split between morning and night.

I use 1 pump in the morning spread over 2 upper arms and half- 1 pump at night.

Squirt the gel into your palm and apply it to your arms or inner thighs. Rub in lightly but not too long or it will all be absorbed by your hands and not your body.

You can't have skin to skin contact with someone else, where the gel is, for an hour or it may transfer.

Likewise, you can't use body lotion or sun cream for an hour afterwards and not before, either.

I do it straight out of the shower. Once I’ve brushed my teeth, put moisturiser on, faffed about a bit it’s dry.

Thanks girls. I really appreciate this. It’s taken me a long long time to get this treatment so it feels like a big deal.

Don't expect instant results. IIRC I felt an improvement in under a month, but things continued improving for a good few months. I think I was lucky, also, that the dose my GP started me on was the right dose for me, and we did not need to adjust it immediately. I've gradually increased my dose over the years. I can tell when I need to increase (or when I've forgotten for a couple of days!).

You can put it on one inner thigh and lightly brush against the other inner thigh to smear it thinly. That way you don't get any on your hands. Same thing with applying to your arms. It can be done hands free so all of the recommended dosage gets smeared on and none of it has to be washed away from your hands.

I use this and have done for about six months now. It's definitely helped in lots of ways and, since have the mirena fitted, my periods have stopped which is amazing!

I top up my patch with gel so I only use one pump at night. As such I lightly coat one inner thigh and then dry off my hand by wiping it over the other inner thigh. By the time I've taken make up off and cleaned my teeth it's always dry.
