Mirena Replacement

This was my third one and it was excruciatingly painful. I got it replaced as I started taking HRT. I knew it would be uncomfortable but she spent 45 minutes trying to get it in. I was seeing stars by the time she was finished. Would my body have changed that much in 4 years or was she just not good at fitting it? I actually have quite a high pain threshold as well.

Gosh sounds awful. They take seconds to fit. Measuring the uterus is usually the tricky bit. I’m so sorry it was awful. I’ve never known it take so long. You poor woman.

My husband asked me if I wanted him to come in with me and I said no I'll be grand. He was waiting to pick me up and was getting really worried because I told him I wouldn't be too long. He told me I looked pretty bad when I sat in the car. He made a fuss of me for the day which was nice.

I had a similar experience with the last coil I had fitted, although not as long as that. It was so painful that I would never got another, although menopausal so don't have to. Been too scared to get the old one out. I had no bother with the ones I had before and like you I have a high pain threshold. I thought I was going to pass out.

My experience is that it depends on the skill of the practitioner. One young doctor I had couldn't get the old one out and had to call a more experienced doctor. The last consultant was bloody brilliant. Take some paracetamol 30 minutes beforehand - sometimes helps

I took strong pain killers an hour before and 2 buscopan.
