Contraceptive Pill for Perimenopause

Has anyone been prescribed the contraceptive pill for perimenopause?
If so, which brand and has it helped.

I'm 40 this year and for the past couple of years I've not been feeling myself, the best way of describing how I feel is like I did in the early months of pregnancy.
Nausea, no energy, heartburn, general unwell feeling and periods have become painful when I never used to have a problem with them.

My GP has done bloods, ultrasound, endoscopy and all clear.

I've done some research on this awful nausea and perimenopause and think this could be it as its been going on for over 2 years now. What I've found is the pill could help. Just wondered if anyone has any experience with this also?

Thanks Smile

I wondered about this as the pill seems easier to get than HRT sometimes and they seem quite similar, depending on the specific product. My problems all seemed to start when I stopped taking the pill around 42.

I think the problem is that over 40 risks associated with using synthetic hormones go up whereas HRT (transdermal body identical hormones) is associated with less risk.

From what I've read it seems that an ultra low dose (20 mcg) of the synthetic hormone estrogen is recommended.

I've got an appointment with the nurse practitioner, I'm going to ask about giving this a go. I think as long as you're not in any high risk groups, eg smoker, history of blood clots etc it should be OK, fingers crossed as I need something.

Ive been on the pill about two years for peri menopause.

My main problem was heavy frequent periods, hot flushes, joint pain & anxiety.

I take two or three packets one after the other so Ive less period/ bleed. its also helped with the other symptoms Im on oveerna.

Only downside is Ive gained some weight, this may have nothing to do with pill and my lack of self control!!

Hi I was put on the mini pill end of November for my perimenopause symptoms which I've had for 6 years first month was fine and period came on the third day of my next packet bleed was minimal but lasted 18 days then stopped for a week then started again and I've now been bleeding for over 40 days, but a feel I want to keep with it as all my perimenopause symptoms are at bay being on the he mini pill, but not sure how long to leave the bleeding for xx
