Heavy period - day 10 and counting? Any advice?

Hi, I wondered if anyone has any advice on this? I’m perimenopausal so periods are hit and miss but this is my first long, heavy period and I wondered if there is anything I can do to stop it?

I’m on anti-depressants for the hot flushes (GP didn’t want to prescribe HRT until I’m menopausal due to family history) but no other meds.

Luckily it’s not painful but it’s very disruptive as I need to the loo so often!!

Any advice appreciated

I have had that twice, my only two periods last year, heavy and stopped on day 10 or 11. Then I didn't have another one for 7 months, until last week 🙄

Progesterone only pill back to back to stop yr periods altogether. Tranexemic acid to stop this period. 🍀🤞

I started taking the progesterone only pill a couple of months ago as was bleeding so heavily due to fibroids. Rather than stopping my periods, I have had a light bleed every day for the last six weeks and counting. Have decided that’s preferable overall.

Can you try a mooncup then at least you won't need to change / empty it as often at least?

When I was peri I had periods that would be incredibly heavy, and would go on for weeks. I stuck it out for ages but eventually took my Dr up on suggestion of Mirena coil.
It was life-changing.

BreakfastClub80 · 28/02/2022 21:15

Thank you all, I spoke to a Nurse Practitioner today and she prescribed norethisterone to stop this and have a breather. I’m assuming it’ll take a day or two at least but 😅!

Mirena coil, life changing .

And two days later, it’s all over…. What a relief!

Thanks for your help, I really wasn’t sure whether I needed medical intervention but definitely did!

I came on here to see if anyone else has this. I'm 48 and currently on day 21 of my period. Shock started 3 weeks ago with very light spotting , then actual normal period around 10 days later. I thought it was at the end and took out my tampon this morning. Lay down and it all started again.

Prior to that if had a few very short cycles of 17 days apart.

I'm 48 so guessing it's perimenopuse. I just want it to stop. Feel really tearful this morning not helped by being away from home on a work trip.

Gingerkittykat · 03/03/2022 06:51

@Seema1234

I had a period which lasted for 38 days last year, it was progesterone/ provera that stopped it.

I was also seen by gynae to rule out sinister reasons for this and now looking at long term options to manage bleeding.

Please phone your GP and request an urgent appointment instead of suffering like this.

Seema1234 · 03/03/2022 19:13

Thank you. As soon as I'm back from holiday I will speak to the GP. What investigations did you have with gynae and what are the long term options? I sound like a wuss, but I've never had any gynae issues so I'm nervous about seeking help.

Seema1234 · 04/03/2022 05:53

I think I might know what's going on. My copper coil strings don't seem to be there. I am guessing the heavy bleeding is due to that. I'm abroad until tomorrow. Anyone had this? Should I go to the hospital when I'm back or the GP when home? No idea.

Gingerkittykat · 04/03/2022 17:10

I had my overdue smear, an ultrasound and a biopsy of my womb lining.

I've got no idea how urgent this is, how long until you are home?

Seema1234 · 05/03/2022 10:48

Thank you, I'm home now so will book a GP appointment on Monday.

I have a dull ache on the left side as well. I will go to A and E of that gets worse but hoping to be able to hold out.
