Help, I'm giving up hope on myself

Going through about 18 hot flushes per day. I'm not sure how I can do my job, off work at the moment. I feel ashamed and humiliated by this happening to me, I'm often delivering big sessions to lots of people and I just can't do it when I get this awful hot thing and sweating...

GP said no hrt as I have liver disease (fatty liver, waiting to get a scan to see how bad it is) also said my blood pressure is high.

I've lost 3 stone and run 25k per week since October. Now I have a normal bmi and generally feel better. Quit alcohol completely.

But now the hot flushes have arrived I don't know how much more I can cope with.

Also exhausted because I need the loo all the time at night.

I go to the loo during the day, then 5 mins later need a wee again. Feel like I'm going mad.

Does this sound normal for menopause?

I'm 47 and periods have stoped 3 months ago

Yes you’ve hit menopause for sure.

For the bladder issues. I’d strongly suggest asking for VAGIFEM ABD OVESTIN. Urinary problems are one thing which just don’t go away at all, they get worse. It’s all to due with declining Oestrogen, lax muscles and weakness in that area.

You could try herbal stuff for the flushes. Sage can be good. A Vogel do a decent tincture.

Essentially your Oestrogen levels are declining and if you are symptomatic, then HRT may be required. You have been period free for only 3 months, so you would need a cyclical regime . Transdermal HRT is very safe. Patch, spray or gel. I’m a breast cancer survivor and take a tablet each day ( Oestrogen and progesterone). Very few women these days are actually not allowed to take HRT, despite what the GP says!

Good luck.

Ask for a referral to a menopause specialist.

Most HRT now is transdermal - through the skin- and bypasses the liver more than tablets.

You may be allowed it.

Meant VAGIFEM AND OVESTIN.

Vagifem is an Oestrogen pessary and ovestin is an oestrogen cream, which can be used internally and externally.

They should fix the urge to wee every five minutes.
Also keep everything well lubricated in that domain.
YES vaginal moisture gel is good and available on prescription, as is vagifem and ovestin.

Thank you very much. I will go back with this info. Have chat booked with GP on Thursday xxx

this not being allowed oestrogen because of high blood pressure etc is frustrating as hell. HRT only REPLACES the oestrogen that we have lost, we aren't increasing above normal levels

namechanged221 · 24/02/2022 16:26

Thanks all, doctor has indeed back tracked abs said yes to transdermal hrt

I'm wondering if having the mirena coil might help by avoiding the need for progesterone?

Does anybody else get this horrible feeling just before a hot flush starts?

I've started to be able to recognise when it's coming now, I feel slightly sick and anxious and.... just not right???

And I think, oh what's wrong with me now??? Then I remember that's what happens every time... then the heat and sweating bit comes on. Then it's over in about 1 minute.

Is that normal?

Hello everyone….I’m so confused & needing some help. I’m 48 & post menopause. I had an unexplained bleed after 17 months of no period & after a hysteroscopy was advised to take Vagirux pessary for vaginal atrophy. My doctor also prescribed me with Utrogestan 100mg continuously. I’m now on day 20 & I feel absolutely awful. Spaced out, depressed, nausea & no motivation. I have been told that there is no need for me to be on Utrogestan as the vagirux has such a low dose of oestrogen. My doctor wasn’t filling me with confidence when I asked for help yesterday & prescribed me with anti depressants. I’m now thinking of stopping HRT altogether as I can’t cope. Anyone else feeling the same?

Your dr is wrong and giving you the wrong treatment. In fact it will make your symptoms worse.

Vaginal estrogen is NOT hrt.
It's topical estrogen.
It is not absorbed other than in the vagina.

You do not need to use progesterone with it.

Can I ask who told you that you don't need Utrogestan?

You need to make your dr aware of the mistakes they are making and maybe even consider reporting this or at least talking to another dr at the practice. It's a serious prescribing error.

You aren't on HRT. The Vagirux is not classed as HRT (despite what the leaflet says.)

You can carry on using it but you do not need Utrogestan.

Thank you so much for replying. I was told on another forum that I didn’t need to take Utrogestan but wanted a second opinion as my doctor didn’t fill me with confidence. I am going to stop the Utrogestan as I really am feeling awful. Today I’m suffering breathlessness & extreme dizziness. It just goes to show that your doctor isn’t always right! 🙄

You really need to feed this back to them and maybe further up the chain, as it's dangerous for a GP to mis-prescribe. If they can't get something this simple correct, what else might they be doing with their female patients?

Postmum · 26/02/2022 16:36

Yes I’m going to complain on Monday, I’m so angry at the thought of her putting my health at risk after already having the stress over the last few months. Thank you again.

Yes I get that feeling. Exactly as you describe. Actually, I just peel off my layers in preparation now as so used to it! I don't get many but I do know exactly what is going to happen!
namechanged221 · 26/02/2022 20:02

@mrsrobin ohh yes, good point. I'll just start taking off the layers in advance....

I'm getting about 1 per hour at the moment which is really debilitating 😕

OP posts:
mrsrobin · 26/02/2022 22:30

One an hour, ugh, poor you. I usually have one about half an hour after my meal in the evening. It's bizarre really! Sometimes I get one or two during the day too. I hope you get to feel better soon.
