Hi everyone. I’m 54 and over the past year or so my periods were getting a bit more irregular but still coming every 3-5 weeks. I had a period in September then nothing until January. I thought they had maybe stopped but the January one was really heavy. Now, 3 weeks later I have another period. Just wondering what usually happens to periods in the run up to menopause. Should periods just stop or do they come and go like this? Thanks

100% normal.
It's quite rare for periods just to stop.

You are quite old to still be having periods, so the odds are they might fizzle out in a year or sooner. Gaps can get longer or even shorter.

Most women's have stopped by 51, but the range is 45-55.

Mine were erratic for a mere 4 years before they deigned to stop when I was 3 months off 57....
