HRT and thrush

I've been on HRT (oestrogen patches, micronized progesterone) for 6 months. I now have an intense case of thrush. The last time I had this was in my 20's and cleared up with a course of pessaries I could get over the counter.

I'm now on my 2nd lot of otc pessaries and I've added pay d'arco today as well.

Has anyone had this with HRT? How did you treat it? Which is the culprit? Oestrogen? I'm sure my blood sugars are wonky as well so I'm thinking I might need to try keto..any guidance is greatly appreciated!

I can’t tolerate HRT because of this. I get it within 4 days of starting it.

I think you can take flucanazole twice weekly to combat it though.

Thanks for that. I'm hoping to not have to stop the HRT as it's been fantastic otherwise..!

Are you sure it's thrush?
Have you had a swab taken?

It will be the oestrogen. It’s a common side effect of starting HRT. Basically if you just treat it and ride it out it will stop. You might need some Fluconazole orally. You can buy the 150mg capsules over the counter and if that doesn’t work the Gp can prescribe a longer course of 50mg per day. (I suffer from recurrent chronic thrush and am under a specialist for it, I found HRT made it worse and had to stop taking it for various reasons in the end - not the thrush aspect but how it impacted on my autoimmune issues).

No necessarily. I tried to ride mine out. It didn’t stop or clear up.
I had to give up taking it.

Fair enough. I guess I’m just sharing my own experience.
