Progesterone only HRT?

I've been on novofem for two years and I feel so much better when I take the white progesterone tablets. Is there a hrt available that is just progesterone without the oestrogen? Thank you

Not as far as i know. The need to take progesterone is to protect the womb from cancer i believe but I've never heard of anyone who takes progesterone on its own.

I don't know but I'm taking a progesterone only pill back to back to stop (heavy) periods altogether. Obviously I'm 51 so I would be having meno symptoms if I weren't on it but I seem to feel fine.

As I understand it, at the beginning of your menopause progesterone on its own can help you but towards the end of it, oestrogen is needed.

I'm 53 and still have my mirena coil so thats progesterone only. I have no idea if I'm menopausal or not 😁

OrangeBlossom28 · 05/02/2022 15:44

I'm no expert but from what I've been reading about, yes, you can have just progesterone. Mirena coil is recommended and I'm taking Cerelle at 50 as a contraceptive. I say this loosely now as I must be somewhere on the meno journey. Fwiw taking a sage tablet at night has stopped my night sweats.

No, in a word.

HRT is estrogen (and progesterone if you still have a womb.)

The Mirena is only for heavy periods/ contraception, OR as part of HRT with a separate estrogen.

Thank you that will save me a visit to the doctor. I will have to hope my days on the red tabs get better. Could I take fewer of them? So instead of taking the fourteen ref pills I could just take ten 🤔

What is HRT helping with? Have you considered not using it? It's really unusual to find estrogen doesn't agree with you.

If you want to try a lower dose of estrogen, it would be better to swap to either an estrogen patch - 25mcgs- or 1 pump of estrogen gel- which is less than 1mg in your tablet.

Oh yes it's definitely helping my mental symptoms were absolutely horrendous to the point of I don't think I would be now if it wasn't for hrt. I just get agitated and raging on reds. Maybe I need to tweak or change to a pump. Thank you x
