If Pill didn't suit, is there a risk HRT will make moods worse?

I'm 47 and I am nearly at that point of contacting the Dr, or a clinic, about HRT. My main symptoms (so far) seem to be mood based. Teary and anxious one day and irritable the next. I am experiencing emptiness that lots of people are posting about (I'm heading to the "is it Meno, or is life just shit" thread after posting this).

My main concern is related to when I tried the pill when I was younger. I tried 2 types and they both left me completely flat, depressed, empty. When I came off the second one (after a couple of months of trying) I had people I work with telling me they had been really worried about me and it was nice to see me smile again etc.

I have got on well with a Mirena for a long time although it is no longer stopping my periods (those were the days!!) and don't have the same mood issues as with the pill.

If I ask my Doctor for HRT, is there a possibility it will make the moods worse?

Following with interest.

The bit that usually causes problems is then progesterone element, needed to protect the uterus, but you already have a mirena so would only need oestrogen, which isn’t usually the cause of mood lowering.

I was the same with the pill, also have mirena, and had this concern when starting HRT but I've had patch for several months with one increase in dosage (they start you low), and zero problems at all.

It had a positive effect on my mood within a couple of weeks.

@NoKidsFraud The Mirena is half of HRT- it gives the progestin side that's needed. So if you got on well with that, have another one, and all you need alongside is estrogen which could be a patch or gel.

The Pill and HRT are totally different. Some kinds of HRT are natural (made from yams and identical to our own hormones) whereas the Pill is made as a synthetic product.
