Hi

I’m having a period every 21 days at the moment, heavy blood loss and migraines, hot flashes, severe acne and brain fog/dizziness. Already on iron supplements for past 12 months. Dr has referred me for a scan and has ordered a blood test to check the following:
FBC
IFSH
ILH
IOES
IPRG
ISTUD

She told me I can go whenever for this blood test but I thought the best time to go was during a cycle?
I have to book the blood test online and have just finished a period so wondering if to try and delay it until my next period arrives or does it really not matter?
I’m 33 If that helps, my mum started peri menopause at 39.

Thanks x

Hi

If your GP is trying to diagnose peri or early menopause, they might have told you that the tests are best done during the first 2-5 days of your cycle, so when you are having a period. They are also often repeated a 2nd month, for accuracy.

FBC full blood count
IFSH follicle stimulating hormone*
ILH luteinising hormone*
IOES oestrogen
IPRG progesterone
ISTUD ?

  • These are ones that can change according to your cycle. FSH is important and above a certain level, can show peri menopause.

Hope this helps and good luck!
