Oestrogel and Keratosis Pilaris

Has anyone else noticed the KP on their arms disappear since starting Oestrogel? I originally thought it might get worse as the gel contains ethanol and seemed like it would be quite drying. But I've been surprised to see the KP almost totally disappear from my arms since starting HRT a few months ago.

A quick Google seems to suggest that KP might be hormone triggered... will have to research it a bit more...

I think it’s just the moisturising effect. I tend to put it on only on one arm which is very smooth but still some KP on the other side. Note to self must use both arms Grin

I think it's the rubbing...I don't know about actual KP ...looked a google images and it seems a good deal angrier than what I had

.. but had bumpy upper arms a few years back and made it my business to exfoliate like a demon to see if that worked and it did, now been using the gel for a couple of years and the skin on my arms is lovely. If I could be bothered to do something about the bingo wings that would be amazing!

I'm not sure because prior to starting HRT I was rotating three different moisturisers that are designed for KP, using them daily, and it wasn't making much difference. I stopped applying them when I started HRT as it was too much to apply everything in the morning and I couldn't be bothered in the evening.

I've noticed that KP is hormonal before as well as environmental.

Really good during pregnancy and then a phase not long after of it being really bad! I started patches a month ago and my arms are good. I remember it being really bad when I was a teen; I started periods late too.

Dr Dray has done a good YouTube vid on beat skin care. I found it really helpful.

I'm now much more careful about sunscreen on it and also find the blue aveeno put on immediately after a shower is the best treatment.

I don't have KP, but I do fine Oestrogel really drying, and have to moisturise my arms before bed!

Yes this has happened to me! It's amazing, and no dryness on my arms as others have experienced, just lovely smooth skin for the first time!

PrettyUpMyPorch · 01/01/2023 16:42

Actually I was just going to update because after a few months of the initial smoothness when I started Oestrogel they actually got really dry and bumpy again. But recently I’ve switched to patches and my arms are so smooth and soft again!

I think the gel was really drying after a while and offset the benefits of the oestrogen… hoping the difference will be permanent now I’m on the patches!

Why are you all putting oestrogel on your upper arms when it heeds to be away from breasts?!

NancyJoan · 01/01/2023 16:48

Mine disappeared after my 2nd pregnancy, never to return, so it makes sense to me that it’s hormone related.

Blueautumn65 · 01/01/2023 20:39

Upper arms is the recommended area to apply gel, with one pump to each arm. For more pumps the advice is to apply to inner thighs. At least this was the advice given to me! I've also googled it and checked where Davina applies hers (upper arms). I don't go too near armpits.

Er.... coz them's the directions on the packet? Confused
However, you can also do inner thigh and that's where I put mine
