Hi ladies. I ve been a lurker on here for months and have learnt so much about HRT thanks to you all! I started taking estrogel 6 days ago after a consult with Newson health. I was having a long period at the time…. Well spotting mostly. Anyway my period started today which is when I was due anyway. So when should I start the progesterone? Newson health told me to start it in a month so that I can see how I get on with just the estrogel but as I ve been spotting for weeks and now this months period I m wondering if I should start the progesterone part? Also is it normal to bleed just in the estrogel?

What I think I m trying to work out also is if I take the estrogel for one month with no utrogestan will I have a very very heavy period when I stop the utrogestan? I really can’t cope with another heavy period!

It makes sense to give the gel a chance so you get the dose right.

When I started HRT I went onto a much longer estrogen only time- 10 weeks. yes, the bleed was heavy-ish but not terrible.

You should normally start progesterone mid cycle if you have periods ( so roughly 2 weeks after Day 1) and then it coincides with your natural cycle.

Thank you so much for replying! I ve developed this awful anxiety during peri so question everything and I know I irrationally worry too much about the whole process! Yet I know I need hrt and it will help with these awful symptoms…. eventually anyway! Plus I want the protective benefits for future health from hrt. I have fibroids too and had some issues 3 years from them with urine retention which is probably why I m more cautious about adding too much estrogel without the progesterone. Ok so I ll just take the estrogel for a month and the period that follows will be what it is! 🤞
