Oestrogen patches without progesterone?

Hi all, I believe I am peri menopausal so saw Gp - am 44 with regular (but getting lunch lighter) periods but a whole bunch of other symptoms suggests I have low oestrogen levels. Gp has prescribed the 50 evorel patches but without taking progesterone for last 14 days of cycle - she said that I only need that if I am taking the gel oestrogen hrt?! Is this correct ? My understanding was they oestrogen only hrt is prescribed for post menopausal women or those whom have had a hysterectomy…..

I was always under the understanding that you should balance out with progesterone if you still have a uterus. I may be wrong but unopposed oestrogen can cause a thickening of the uterine lining? I’ve been under gynae for several years and this is what they’ve told me.

You need progesterone

Twoweekcruise · 10/12/2021 21:08

I’ve just read that Evorel does also contain synthetic progesterone.

PaddingtonsHat · 10/12/2021 21:14

Evorel 50 is just oestrogen.
If you have a uterus and you don’t have a mirena then you need progesterone for half of your cycle.
Evorel Sequi may have been prescribed which is Evorel 50 and then an Evorel conti patch for the second 2 weeks (has both hormones)

Aries77 · 10/12/2021 21:25

I’ve been prescribed evorel sequi 50

And evorel Conti, but the Gp didn’t explain the regime any further

Is evorel 50 a fairly low level of oestrogen? I am quite sensitive to estrogen and previously could only tolerate the 20mg pills

If you’ve got sequi that’s correct. 2 weeks of the 50 patch then 2 weeks of the conti patch.
50 is a middle of the road dose. See how you get on, 3 month trial is usual

spudjulia · 10/12/2021 21:31

Evorel 50 for 2 weeks followed by conti for 2 weeks. The conti contain progesterone and should allow a period. You need a period for a healthy womb, if you usually have periods without hrt.

Thank you all.
Not sure why Gp didn’t explain this.
Also not sure about the 50 level -should have been given 20 perhaps given I’m sensitive to oestrogen

Because if you are menopausal the problem is a lack of oestrogen- it’s not like the pill where you’re giving additional. I find younger women need more oestrogen

I think evorel do 25,50,75 and 100. I was out on 50 to start, and I also have gel 'top up' as required. I don't think 50 is considered very high? But I'm not a medical professional and don't know what your oestrogen sensitivity would entail.

Have you got the balance app? There's so much information on there, and it's very up to date.
