If you have fibroids, did they shrink after menopause?

I have a long history of fibroids causing awful periods, controlled somewhat by the combined pill and two surgeries in the last 8 years. Things have got worse in the last year since I stopped the pill. Just seen gynaecologist who says my bleeding patterns would suggest menopause isn't far off at which point the fibroids will shrink anyway providing I stay away from HRT. Nevertheless, she's going to do a scan to check latest status of fibroids and that there's nothing else going on with a view to doing another surgery to trim the fibroids back (they can't be removed) to keep me going until menopause. Does anyone have any experience?. I'm 54 btw.

Thanks.

I’m also very interested in this. Saw the consultant on wed who advised an hysterectomy. I’m 50 so think should I just wait. Will the fibroids shrink after menopause .

I had some significant fibroids including one which was 10cm diameter (so large but not massive I thjnk). I'm probably peri but o had a scan for wierd bleeding and it showed my fibroid us calcified which apparently they do if their blood supply/hormone input is cut down.

I'm no expert mind you but my gynae was happy to leave it be in the circumstances

Thanks for replying. When I had my last surgery 5 years ago I was told that some of the fibroids had degenerated (which I think is the same as calcified). Hopefully, more of them have now. I was told that my bleeding issues may well be more caused by wacky hormones this time, rather than fibroids. Scan tomorrow.
