Confused about HRT

I have an appointment with a gynaecologist tomorrow and am unsure as to whether I should be pushing for hrt or not.

I was referred by my GP in the summer as I have a genetic condition that causes premature ovarian insuffiency and was at the time getting hot flushes day and night which was affecting my sleep. My bloods showed an FSH level of 58 and LH of 36. I have had 3 irregular periods this year.

In the last couple of months however I have felt fine and the hot flushes have stopped. My only concern is osteoporosis as both my grans had this. Is a concern about osteoporosis a sufficient reason to start HRT? I am 41.

In a word YES.

POI is a serious condition, affecting not just your bones but hearts and brains.

I suggest you read the website of / join the Daisy Network, a national charity for POI run by consultants.

Its actually medical advice that women with POI use HRT up to age 50-ish at least even if they don't have menopausal symptoms.
