Hello all I have been diagnosed with pcos in my 20s and my period lengths have always been long.
Tell end of last year I started having my period roughly every 10 days and bleeding for 7. Worried I was referred to see a gynaecologist i had an internal scan and a hysteroscopy and result were everything is fine. I'm advised its the pcos and to go on the mirena coil everything will be fine.

I didn't take the coil and my periods returned to long cycles every 43+ plus days till last month I bleed for 2 weeks a mixture of spotting and heavy bleeding not my normal. And now today 9 days after stopping the 2 week cycle I'm bleeding again.

Could this be the start of peri menopause? I'm having the odd hot flush in my face and I do keep having rage filled moments also weirdly my hair has become quite curly 🤪. Also terrible bloating my hormones are definitely off but does this sound like the start of the peri menopause? Any advice would be great will speak to gp about blood tests on Monday

Yes absolutely. It's very normal for periods to come closer together before they start spacing out more. Mine were every 15 days before I started HRT.

Do talk to your doctor. That sounds so debilitating.
I had different symptoms to you but waited till 55 for help. You ask now. Good luck.

Why were you reluctant to get the mirena?
I recently got the Kyleena coil for heavy periods. Kyleena is a lower dose than Mirena… but gynaecologist thinks it will help with my periods. I had bad cramps for two weeks after insertion but that’s now gone and my first period was a total breeze. Hoping it will stop my periods entirely.

Reading with interest because I also have an (old) diagnosis of PCOS, am having some hormonal problems (the fucking spots, why are they back!) and have been wondering if perimenopause is to blame. I am in my early 40s, so older than you.

In fact I think it's unlikely. My bloods have been normal. My mum, who also had PCOS, went through the menopause at 56. It seems that because we have more eggs to begin with, we tend to go through the menopause at an older age. How were your cycles in the early 30s? I had very erratic and distantly spaced cycles in my 20s, but around 32/33 they settled down to every 28-30 days and remain on that schedule. After I had my second child at 38 I also had some problems like you describe, ie constant and frequent bleeding. That turned out to be a variety of ovarian (luteal) cysts. At your age, with a PCOS diagnosis, I think that's your most likely problem.

Acupuncture and taking myo-inositol seems to have sorted me out for now, perhaps worth trying? Or alternatively the combined pill for a few cycles to shut your ovaries down?
