Please can anyone tell me how to take my first lot of HRT?

I've been prescribed oestrogel 0.06% gel and utrogestan 100mg

Instructions on the gel are to use one metered dose a day, and to take the utrogestan daily on days 1 to 25 of cycle.

So one lot of gel a day every day and 25 days of utrogestan

I'm on day 17 of my cycle. Can I just start today with both? I can see me getting confused so need to just keep this simple as possible

I started on day one of my cycle snd do 13 days of gel only then 11 days of gel combined with utrogestan.

jazzandh · 05/11/2021 17:10

That sounds like continuous HRT which I thought was prescribed if you no longer had periods - in which case it wouldn't matter when you start it.

SuperDup3r · 05/11/2021 17:13

I have regular periods so don't think it's continuous HRT

Definitely says to take for 25 days of the month though.

I suppose I could just start the gel today and then start the utrogestan whenever - making sure I just do 25 days a month.

25 days seems a lot though

@izzy2076 see that makes more sense to me. Gel every day and the utrogestan for 10-14 days.

Well if you are taking it for 25 days it is continuous and generally for post menopausal women.

The usual regime if you still have periods is 2 pills for 12 days a month.

jazzandh · 05/11/2021 17:18

Agree with izzy2076.

SuperDup3r · 05/11/2021 17:28

God why are some doctors just so not on the ball about this? I only knows it didn't look right because of the reading and researching I've been doing

Agree with the others. I still have periods and I have oestrogel every day and utrogestan 2 tablets a day for 14 days a month. My friend has the same as me.

sunshinelover69 · 05/11/2021 17:40

Gel is used every day, you don't have a break from it.

SuperDup3r · 05/11/2021 17:55

I understand the gel is a daily thing and I've got that cemented in my brain so that's a start

It's just the utrogestan. And I've just noticed my dosage is 100mg a day for the 25 days. Not 200mg for half that time so I'm wondering if it's as broad as it is long

OP posts:
SuperDup3r · 05/11/2021 18:02

I think I'm going to take 2 capsules (so 200mg) for 14 days and not 100mg every day for 25 days

@SuperDup3r have you picked up your actual prescription?

The leaflet in the box of Utrogestan tells you the dose. It's a LONG leaflet but the dose is certainly there.

It's 2 x 10mgs for 12 days (not 14 which is what a lot of GPs seem to think.)

As PPs have said, using it for 25 days out of 28 is for women with no periods and even this has been updated by many specialists, to be 1 capsule every day (not 25.)

JinglingHellsBells · 05/11/2021 20:03

10mgs= 100mgs (Typos.)

SuperDup3r · 05/11/2021 20:12

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells I'll look in the box. I'd not got that far as didn't think it would say different to the outer box

I'm confused as well because on the Balance app it says to just use 100mg for 12-14 days but other places stare 200mg

Please can anyone tell me how to take my first lot of HRT?

Actually I think I've confused myself there
