Post menopause symptoms getting worse

I'm early 50s, was told 4 years ago by my GP that blood tests showed I was post-menopause but my symptoms seem to be getting worse. Im not on any meds but have tried lots of different herbal remedies. Worst things are daily headaches, low mood & serious flushes affecting my whole body where I'm soaked through to my underwear. I've been putting off calling my gp but will have to as it's getting intolerable and affecting daily life. Is this normal post meno?

Being post-menopausal means that your periods have stopped more than a year ago. Do you mean peri-menopausal when you refer to your symptoms?
Sounds to me as if you'd qualify for HRT, I would discuss this with your GP. The NICE guidelines are very clear - if you are over 45 and experiencing symptoms, you should be offered HRT. No testing, no checking cycles, no trying antidepressants.

I would recommend to check out Louise Newson's website, there is loads of information there.

I’m post (15 months) and have just been prescribed conti patches. Menopause matters website is useful.

No I do mean post menopause. My periods stopped 4 years ago which is why I had the bloods done. I'll check that website out thanks. I see a lot of info about peri menopause but not much about what to expect after.

Op if you join the forum on Menopause Matters you’ll see they are asking for a post menopausal board because so may of us have symptoms well after periods have finished.

Being officially post-menopause means nothing as far as many symptoms are concerned. I plan on staying on HRT for as long as I can. I’m 57. If I forget to take my gel I feel awful again.

@Hueandcry I'm wondering if you think that the symptoms women suffer only happen before periods stop? (ie in peri menopause.)

What you have is sadly, normal.

Being post meno means you have very low estrogen now for life.

I hate to say it, but some women have hot flushes forever. (My gynae consultant has women in their 90s on HRT as they still have symptoms without it.)

My Mum suffered till her 80s at least, and many women do.

@Knownbyanothername
I'm puzzled why women on MM want a separate section there. A menopause forum isn't just for women in peri.

Sadly, there seems to be a bit of a knowledge gap in that women think end of periods = end of symptoms.

Often end of periods just means the start of symptoms, including invisible ones like bone loss, and heart disease.

Oh dear, hot flushes for life doesn't sound much fun. I've got a phone consultation with my GP in 2 weeks so plenty of time to do my research before then Smile

You have symptoms because you don't have sufficient levels of hormones. You need hormone supplements for a healthy old age. Do your research and write it down in bullet points so you are very clear about your needs when you get the phone call. Do not be fobbed off.
