Period 17 days apart

New to this board.

I'm 47 and periods have been edging closer to every 21-24 days for the last 3 years. But this morning, I have woken to the next one 17 days after the last!

Given the last one was for 6 days that means only a 11 day break. Hmm

Is this normal? Should I go to the GP?

I also want to add that I had horrific anxiety for the week leading up to the last one. I've been getting that on and off for the last 5 years, but this was on a whole other scale. Glad to say as soon as my period arrived it vanished and I haven't had it this time.

I've had a few 17/18 day cycles amongst the 21-24 day ones (was approx 28 when I was younger), even had an 11 day one! Last one was 18 days and I also spotted for a week afterwards. Currently on day 24 of this cycle. Presume all normal but very annoying!

Talk to your GP. There are things that can be done to help.

Thank you. It is indeed annoying. It also explains why I was troughing chocolate yesterday and couldn't sleep last night as I was so hot. Always a sign, but I ignored it.

@FudgeFlake do you mean HRT? I was hoping to avoid that.

Totally normal. Exactly what happened to me. After a while they will start to get further apart then stop.

Why were you hoping to avoid HRT? It could completely banish your anxiety, protect you from heart disease, osteoporosis and loads of other things.

I wanted to avoid HRT too. Big mistake—it would have made my life much easier years earlier.

I have retinal migraines so can't have the pill, so not sure about HRT. Need to do some reading. Totally been putting my head in the sand. Confused

This happened to me, and I became anaemic.
I had a Mirena put in.

Level75 · 27/10/2021 16:54

Migraines is one of the things HRT got rid of for me. I have patches and utrogestan. These are better than the pills as closer to what you naturally produce and are less likely to lead to side effects.

Have a read of this as well.

Honestly though, I could cope with the physical symptoms including migraines but the anxiety did my head in (literally). It's so nice to take something to stop all that.

Thank you all.
