Pregnant or menopause

I’ll keep it brief. Clear blue how many weeks says I’m 1-2 weeks pregnant clearblue line test says neg. first response gave faint line positive but other cheaper tests show negative. I’ve had headaches nausea frequent peeing mood swings and slowed digestion and worked out if I was pregnant I’d be about 11 weeks but with tests saying yes and no I don’t know if it’s just picking up menopause hormones I am just turned 49.

I would call your gp tomorrow and request bloods. That way you will have definitive answer but that sounds really confusing for you. I would trust the digital and frer, but with your age factor I'm unsure. Is your period delayed?

TinaWeymouthsBass · 24/10/2021 12:06

"Menopause hormones" are just your normal hormones (oestrogen and progesterone) fluctuating where as pregnancy hormone (hcg) is only produced when your pregnant so far the clear blue and first response say you're pregnant then you are producing hcg and are indeed pregnant!
So hopefully this is congratulations!

I have been skipping periods for two years two or three months at a time. I felt very pms-y two weeks before I had what may have been an implantation bleed then I was tired for 2weeks then the constant bathroom trips started. Clear blue digital keeps saying for weeks and weeks that I’m 1-2 but the same brand in line test was neg. recently I had a faint line on first response but nothing today on a one pound cheap test from a local shop.

I’ve had faint positive on a line test and I’m waiting to see what clearblue says again, ordered one on line that simply says pregnant or not pregnant in case the one with the weeks indicator is mistaking menopause for pregnancy . I just don’t know if I am pregnant or not I’m waiting for definite signs before I see a doctor in case it’s just my hormones at this time of life fooling the test.

Scary, don't mean to scare you but I had a scan at 49 (because of heavy periods) and she could tell that I'd just ovulated. I was shocked.

I hope you're not pregnant, heaven help you! Can the gp do a blood test tomorrow?

xxxx

Does a pregnancy test mistake menopause for pregnancy? I wouldn't have thought so because a prg test is to detect Chorionic Gonadotropin

ManifestingWisdom · 31/10/2021 19:38

Hcg can be found in post menopausal women but you're hardly that if you're still having periods Confused

GraceCarter · 31/10/2021 20:29

I’m taking another test to be sure it’s not just the one particular brand saying I’m pregnant when others have been negative. I’m finding it hard to believe I possibly can be pregnant - it just seems unbelievable. I want to be sure of it before I approach a doctor as I really don’t want to look crazy for thinking I’m pregnant at my age I can’t believe it myself it seems unbelievable. There’s a big part of me that thinks I’m not, I can’t be, not at my age.

You can be at 49, it’s not unheard of, just unlikely.

JinglingHellsBells · 01/11/2021 10:07

To be blunt, if you had unprotected sex and are not 2 years post meno (no periods for 2 years) then yes, you could be PG.

My DH new someone whose mother had a child at 49. It's not unheard of by any means.

Best see your dr and consider Plan A and Plan B if you are.

I have a family member who had a baby at 50, her other dcs are in their 20s! Thankfully everything went ok . I also have a couple of friends who’ve had babies in their late 40s so it’s definitely not impossible.
