Hot flushes far too frequent

Hi all,

I've been peri a long time. My period became irregular a decade ago but I still have it. I had a slew of hot flushes about 7 years ago, then they stopped. About 3 or 4 weeks ago I started getting them again. Not as overwhelming as they were 7 years ago BUT I'm getting them throughout the day and night. I'm so lethargic.

I started hrt in spring but stopped because of life circumstances and I felt the hrt complicated matters. I don't really want to go back on it though. No reason really, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience of hot flashes occurring several times during a 24 hr period and if anything other than hrt helped.

Yes, I had hot flushes on the hour for a while and night sweats and insomnia.

I started HRT as it was too tiring not to sleep.

It's quite normal to have lots of flushes. If they are bothering you, think again about hrt.

Diet can help some people find- not too many carbs, or spicy foods or alcohol and caffeine.

Thanks jingling, I didn't want to state the frequency because I thought no one would believe me, but it looks like you would! I've had three since 6 am. I decided to start counting today. I'm waking up in a sweat 2 or 3 times a night. Not to the extent that bedding is soaked, but enough it wakes me. Maybe I should restart hrt. It's the obvious solution. Also you've named my 4 main food groups there so... (joking, I've cut back massively on alcohol!).

Count yourself lucky, I get them every half hour like clockwork. Slightly less during the night, about every 1.5 to 2 hours. I’ve had them about 4 months, co-incided with my last period.

That's awful Make, how are you functioning! I will count myself lucky.

I wonder if anyone has experienced my current problem. I restarted HRT (Femseven Conti patches) in July this year. I was flushing and freezing every 20 minutes and so tired and miserable I persuaded my GP to prescribe the HRT again. I'm 67. Well, in about 2 weeks I felt so much better. No flushes, no insomnia and much more energy. I was delighted. However it didn't last. Now I'm plauged with constant acid reflux. It's there all the time. I hardly eat and have not had a drop of alcohol in months. I threw my patches away and it's still the same. Does anyone know if this is common. I really don't know what to do. My GP had prescribed Lansoprazol but the acid is always there. Could anyone advise me. Thank you

There's no need to suffer like this. Restart your HRT. It's a lifesaver.

My hot flushes had become intolerable at work. Anything would set them off and I was having many a day. I went on hrt patches and they helped a bit but not enough.

I’ve recently doubled my dose of oestrogen and switched to 100 oestrogen patches and use progesterone pessaries for part of the month. (I don’t tolerate progesterone orally) Flushes are finally under control. For me the answer was a change in dose which they were happy to give me after checking my general health and risk factors.

Now if I could just stop crying and feeling so tired all the time…

I am getting them more often after a while without any. They seem to tie up with anxiety feelings Confused.
