Dizziness

I feel a bit stupid posting this but have people found dizziness as a symptom. I'm definitely perimenopausal as periods which were always regular are getting further apart (I'm 48). I have occasional hot flushes but they have only started over the past few weeks but I've been getting random dizzy spells.

I saw the GP because they worried me but he was very dismissive although things like blood pressure were checked and ruled out. He gave me some exercises to do because he thought it was about my posture but it didn't really make much difference (I did ask if it might be linked to perimenopause but he didn't answer that bit - it was as if he didn't hear).

I'm not feeling particularly stressed at the moment (although - for the first time in my life, I had awful problems with anxiety and panic attacks a couple of years ago and now am wondering if that was linked to this as it felt like it came 'out of the blue' - but fortunately isn't an issue now).

Thanks

I've got the same problem. I'm waiting for blood test results before GP will let me start HRT. She wanted to rule out a few other causes like thyroid problems and anaemia. My dizziness is mainly linked to standing up from sitting or lying down.

I've had intermittent dizzy spells upon waking with nausea. No headaches but I believe them to be some sort of weird migraine. The reason why, I've have had migraine with headaches in the past. I've ended up going back to bed, sleeping, and then got that hung over after migraine feeling afterwards. My period started hours later so thinking definitely hormonal. The latest episode, I was camping and ended up puking in the field much to hubby's horror. Am definitely perimenopausal and BP is fine.

Yes, I have positional vertigo but it only came on in my mid forties and now I am on HRT the attacks are far less frequent and far less grim. My GP at the time did not think of meno (nor did I) and when I mentioned the reduced vertigo to the private GP who eventually gave me HRT she was not convinced. But I have done quite a bit of reading and apparently it is a known issue.

Thanks all. It is reassuring. I think I'll go back to GP (the one I saw was a locum and the regular ones are usually better) if it continues. I am not getting headaches and it isn't debilitating but it is something that has definitely changed and happens too often for it to be a one off.

@purple12 hi! What was the outcome ? Xx

lljkk · 23/02/2022 20:21

Friend has recurring dizzy problems at moment .. she's very unfit & beset with anxiety. She's getting loads of medical tests to try to convince herself it's not anxiety-caused. In her mid30s... Other causes for dizziness besides peri are available.

I literally just had a dizzy spell for first time sat on sofa. Like having had 10 vodkas. Is this the start?

SeasonFinale · 23/02/2022 21:42

Yes that sounds like vertigo which is a menopausal symptom

bellac11 · 23/02/2022 21:43

Yes, peri menopause and lots of vertigo with it. I dont get migraines any more, suffered for years but since I think my hormones changed (no GP will test for peri menopause at my surgery) I suspect the migraines in their traditional form have cleared up (only get a few a month now), but instead have been replaced with this awful vertigo, it comes and goes, worse when looking at something or trying to concentrate.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/02/2022 21:51

Ok and so it begins .....!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/02/2022 21:51

50 this year so expected I guess

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 08:08

Yes dizziness was an issue. I had falling ferritin and taking exta iron did help (Spatone, Gp agreed to re test) but hrt helped the most.

Poppiesmam · 25/02/2022 07:27

I'm peri and I've been experiencing frequent bouts of vertigo, it's really debilitating. Other causes have been ruled out by the GP. I only started to think it might be related to peri menopause when the last bout stopped the day my period started.

zafferana · 25/02/2022 07:32

I've had two dizzy spells for the past few weeks too and I'm the same age as you. I've got low BP and always have had, but this is new and the dizziness is so severe I am literally about to faint - the first time I did faint and the second time I quickly sat down with my head between my knees until it passed. I have no idea whether it's linked to peri. I'm on HRT and have been for two years now. No other new symptoms.
