Testosterone Day 1. Here we go!

I've been on HRT and vagifem but my poor clitoris still virtually gave up the ghostSad
So here's a record of my last ditch effort to get back to my usual self.
I'm documenting it here because despite all the publicity surrounding menopause recently, no one wants to talk about how it affects the clitoris. (Suddenly and savagely in my case).
My libido is sky high (thank you new lover who is 10+ years younger than me - it's a meeting of minds so don't judge!Grin) but my orgasm has all but vanished. Boo hiss.
I've just rubbed my first 0.5 ml of Androfem in and said a silent prayer to the gods of medicine.

I started Androfeme recently too :)

AllTheSunshine · 19/10/2021 22:55

Any improvement yet Mare?

Too early to tell really although my brain fog did disappear within days. However, I started Oestogel and Androfeme at the same time, so can't say which it is due to.

I have just been prescribed testosterone by my GP and am wondering whether others taking it have seen improvements and how long it took? Thanks.

Puppylucky · 11/11/2021 08:10

Hi Just to flag in case anyone on this thread didnt know - it's really important that you check your testosterone levels via blood test after a few weeks to make sure your levels aren't getting too high as this can lead to irreversible side effects. This wasn't flagged to me by my prescriber and is something I only picked up through general reading. 6 weeks into using Androfem and my levels are already concerningly high and I'm having to discuss whether I can continue. It's a shame because I did feel some benefit.

Orchidgrewlegs · 11/11/2021 09:41

Can they not reduce the dose? Use it every other day or something? I'm waiting for an appointment...

Puppylucky · 11/11/2021 10:02

Yes I'm going to see what they say, but I'm concerned about the lack of highlighting the need for checking my levels (in fact she actively dismissed the need for a blood test as she felt it wouldn't be helpful) and have lost a bit of faith. I understand that oestrogen levels are less important to test as they vary over time and there doesn't seem to be the same concern about levels getting too high, (chance would be a fine thing in my case!) but testosterone is very different and it seems it does need to be monitored - I'm just shocked by how quickly it has got too high in my case.

Maremaremare · 11/11/2021 10:10

Good to know @puppylucky I have a review booked in for 10 weeks after I started it, but maybe I'll ask to bring it forward

Orchidgrewlegs · 11/11/2021 10:18

Ah well good luck. Let us know how you get on x

howdidigettobe50something · 11/11/2021 13:14

Ah that's interesting as my doctor said it would be tested again before a 3 month check... maybe I need to follow this up.

Puppylucky · 11/11/2021 14:49

I only picked the need for testing up as it's highlighted in the leaflet that comes in the Androfeme box. It may be an Aussie level precaution and not deemed necessary here but as I said before it's scary how quickly levels seem to rise.

Can I ask, when you say your clitoris gave up the ghost, what exactly do you mean?

I was put on hormone blockers to treat fibroids two/three years ago and since then my cities just doesn't work as well at all. It's like all the padding has gone out of it and it's either sensation free or like a short circuit electric shock that is far from pleasant. I've got a fair bit of sun thinking and lots of colour in the whole vulva area too. I've tried some pessaries in a blue tube but barely made any difference. I've got an app with my Gynae in ten days so want to go forearmed as he's the one that put me on the blockers and didn't war about this.

aquashiv · 20/11/2021 07:56

Just started too. My fai was 0.3. I've been prescribed one pump every other day but so far apart from constipation nothing was thinking of upping to every day but perhaps not. What are the irreversible side effects if too High?
