Patches: I can't keep them on!

I started using Evorel patches about 3 months ago. I have always had problems with getting them to stay on. I read on t'interweb that tegaderm patches over the top stops them from budging, and that's worked for me. However, I think the tegaderm is now irritating my skin as the area can be quite itchy sometimes (or is that down to the patch itself?)

So ... any thoughts? Why won't the patches stick very well? I use shower gel (but not oil), no body lotion, and I tend to replace at night rather than after my morning shower. I put them on the front of my hip, covered by my knickers.

Any thoughts? I'm going through them too quickly!

I change mine in the morning. I put it right on the side of my hip. No nickers really touch them. Maybe your knickers are rubbing them off?
Stick some micropore tape on maybe -that’s hypoallergenic, & cheaper than tagaderm.

They stick far better on your bum rather than your hip or thigh.

SallyOMalley · 14/10/2021 17:35

Hmm so a new one went on this morning. On the bum. Let's see if it stays put ...

Evorel stick to me like glue. Estraderm peel off me almost immediately.

I apply after morning shower on very carefully dried skin.

I am wondering if I can ask GP to specify the make in the prescription but I'm reasonably confident that's not going to be a possibility.

I’ve been using evorel 50 on my bum for 3 years and never had a problem in fact have to take a deep breath to rip them off!!

DobbleDobble · 16/10/2021 21:55

Try on front of thigh, mine stay on fine there.

Cocolapew · 16/10/2021 22:00

Definitely on your bum, I put mine on in the morning and like pp have to rip them off.

Rainbowshine · 16/10/2021 22:15

I found it better on the front of my thigh like others. On the side of my leg didn’t work and any higher also got rubbed off by clothes. I found that you need to make sure it’s really flat on your skin, any slight opening that water can get into will cause it to fall off. I also didn’t change it within 30 minutes of having a shower as my skin was still too warm and that seemed to also cause a problem applying the patch. They have made the world of difference for me, so I hope you also have a good experience with them.

@EntropyBanana my dr specifies the brand. I had a random brand one time and suffered hot flushes & was an emotional wreck within a week. I spoke to the Dr & ask if it could be specified & have never had a problem since. Worth an ask.

Brilliant! Thank you I will do so next time.

randomthings · 19/10/2021 14:02

Apparently different companies use different glue, so you may need to change brand. Just read yesterday that there are also sprays and gels to use instead of patches. I might ask for that next time. I don't like the patches and take them off before I have sex, as they are exceptionally unsexy.

Tegaderm! Can get them from Amazon. Won't budge.

Good call indeed, but I mentioned in my OP thats tegaderm is starting to irritate my skin. You're right, though, it's fab (when it's not itching ...)

@Rainbowshine - have tried the front of the thigh at the top and that seems to be working so far! I also took more time sticking the first half down before unpeeling the second half, and then pressed down for ages with the palm of my hand. Perhaps all that was needed was a little more care! Blush

DobbleDobble · 19/10/2021 20:27

@Rainbowshine yup that’s how you do it, mine are placed at the very top of thigh. Also try to give it an hour after a shower or bath so skin goes colder and finally don’t put any creams onto the leg you are going to place it on!

EntropyBanana · 27/10/2021 07:17

@Idontlike I put in a request for Evorel when I requested my repeat and they have specified it! Thanks so much.

monkeyblonde · 27/10/2021 07:32

I had the same problem so now use the gel rather than patches.
