Help! I can't sleep and have awful menopausal symptoms

Hi,
Can anyone please help? I used to be on Oestrogel and Utrogesten but stopped when I was getting headaches and feeling like it wasn't helping my symptoms. They get really really bad a few days before the period starts. I've since started Ramipril for high bp and now I'm lying awake with awful anxiety and sweating and my chest feels like it's going to explode. I know I won't sleep tonight and i have to look after DS tomorrow while DH works. Is it possible to just re-start the Oestrogel now? I have to do something! I'm drowning here!
Thanks x

Yes, of course you can start it again. begin with 1 pump to allow your body to adjust.

Do you have a uterus? If so you need to take the utrigestran to protect your womb. However you may be progesterone intolerant. I was so ended up having a hysterectomy so I could go oestrogen only

Please go and see a proper doctor. It's worth the money. Menopause is horrendous and debilitating and easily managed medically. I despair of the UK.

Thank you for your replies.

@Stopsnowing.. yes I still have periods which are getting worse every month. I may well be progesterone intolerant. I remember I could never stay on the pill as it would cause awful mood swings and depression. I don't know how bad it has to get on progesterone to make you intolerant and how you'd even get a hysterectomy done when GPs don't seem to know how to help. So far they seem utterly clueless, hence what @Draggondragon says!

@BooseysMom As PP says if you can afford a private menopause consultant they can offer variations off- label.
That might include using Utrogestan less often or at a lower dose. But this comes with the guidance that you might need occasional scans of the womb lining.

Have you tried using Utrogestan vaginally? That's allowed and a lot of us do that.

The other option is to change to a different type like Femoston, which is one of the more body identical tablet forms.

Don't link HRT with the Pill as the hormones in each are very different- you can't compare.

@JinglingHellsBells.. thank you. Unfortunately I can't afford to go private. I did consider taking progesterone vaginally ..will have to keep on at the gp. Femoston sounds worth a try too.
Thanks so much for your advice.

Hi! Thanks to those who offered their advice upthread. I eventually got around to speaking to the gp and he said it was ok for me to re-start the hrt as my blood pressure is now under control with Ramipril. Last night I had an absolutely horrible night of insomnia with aching (but not sweating) so I rubbed in two pumps of oestrogel as I have done the last couple of nights previously, but it didn't work so I guess it's a case of building it up over a few months. But I wonder if it will even work at all seeing as I rarely get sweating. I start the Utrogesten tablets next week. I'm still dubious any of it will work as I don't think it did last time but I have to try anything (tried patches too but they weren't good for me)
Anyone else like to share their experiences of Oestrogel and Utrogesten?
