Spotting - could this be perimenopause?

For the last few years my periods have been heavy resulting in low iron stores. I was sent for a womb scan a couple of years ago which was normal and I've been on and off iron tablets.

For the last 6 months my cycle length has started to vary, down from the usual 28 days to 25/26 days, so not a massive shift but a sustained one. Then this cycle, my 4-5 days of bleeding stopped, i had a day off and I've been spotting ever since, it's now cycle day 10.

I am due a smear which is next week, but I'm wondering if I should also ring the GP about this or not...

I suffer from health anxiety since losing my mum to a brain tumour 7 years ago, and then myself having a few health issues and having my thyroid and gallbladder removed, finding a breast lump (was nothing serious), now my liver enzymes are raised although I don't drink, etc. I always catastrophise things and I'm panicking big time about this bleeding, it's dominating my thoughts, and I'm so tired of things being wrong with me. Any thoughts?

Hiya, I can’t give advice but I’ve posted about this though had no response. I’ve had this for years - since my youngest was born. It’s getting longer and longer and is really annoying. Started off just brown spotting but now pink. I’m sure it’s hormone levels as my periods are getting steadily more irregular and I have lots of other peri menopause symptoms. I should go to the GP really

Thanks for replying. I always think if I've had something for years it must be nothing or I'd know about it by now, so I think you are probably right it's just accelerating perimenopause!

I had a callback from a GP last week who largely dismissed it as an overreaction, then implied it was an STI although I said I've been happily married for 15 years (and WFH with DH for the last 18 months, neither of us goes anywhere ever!), she said if it carried on they would take a swab to look for the STI! Angry

Thankfully it's stopped now... I'm self diagnosing peri-menopause in the absence of any proper medical advice. A bit annoyed with the GP, as I thought I was doing the right thing and following NHS advice by reporting abnormal bleeding...

I have had spotting after strenuous exercise and I contacted gp. She send me to womb scan, which was clear. I think it's just perimenopause or covid jab effect.
