Stated HRT - should I be doing anything else?

I started oestrogen gel last week, and I already have a mirena coil.

I’ve had blood tests that indicate I’m menopausal.

I’m 44 - is there anything else I should be doing to protect my longer term health?

Should I take a supplement etc?

Vitamin D, really, really important!

If you don’t already do so, some sort of weight bearing exercise and plenty of calcium to protect your bones.

Absolutely this. Also ensure you are exercising strenuously regularly, managing weight is another key factor at this time. It's a myth that we put on weight directly as a result of being menopausal, however our calorie requirement diminishes at a time when movement levels decline; it's so important to manage our diet & exercise levels at this point.

Yes, I agree vitamin D and weight bearing exercise are key. I've just started the same HRT and have added bouldering and a free weight workout to my regular running and yoga. I find using weights a bit daunting but the evidence is pretty clear that it is the best thing to do to stay strong in muscles and bones. Bouldering sort of happened because my son took it up, but it's a fun way to get a full body strength workout!
