I went GP about 18 months ago to discuss my blood pressure meds as BP was raised ( understandable at the time )
As part of a very thorough consultation he took my hormone bloods as well as my routine blood pressure ones .
Rang me a few days later and asked me to pop in only to be told one of my blood results was 45 and I was post menopause ! Hastily put me on HRT .

At the time I thought what a fabulously understanding GP as he went through all the risks and benefits .
However 18 months down the line I'm a bit worried .
At the time I was having regular as clockwork periods albeit a bit heavy .
Every 28 days never missed one .
Ovulated not as often probs every 3/4 months rather than every ( always know as had pain )
No hot flushes or anything in fact asked for contraception as knew full well i was very fertile , always ha e been and could easily have been a late 40s pregnancy .
Now 19"8months later I'm bloated ,have gained over a stone and am quite a street person .
All perfectly attributable to the menopause anyway , however I just feel like I've put a plaster on something that didn't need fixing .
It's almost as though I just want to rip it off and let my period come .

Anyone else had similar ?
On another note does that mean I was having post menopausal bleeding ???
TIA

If you were having regular periods, I don't see how you could be post menopausal. Isn't the definition of menopause 12 months since your last period?
If you weren't having any menopausal symptoms, it seems weird he put you on hrt. If I were you, I'd ask to see a different GP.

Also, what kind of hrt did he put you on? The kind you take while you've still got regular periods is different to the kind you take post menopause (I think) so you definitely need to check you're on the right kind for you and that you're getting the right balance of estrogen and progesterone.

Your GP clearly doesn't know that FSH levels (I assume that's what was 45) vary and are unreliable which is why NISE guidance says DO NOT TEST IN WOMEN OVER 45.

Also you have been put on a type of HRT for women who have not had a period for 12 months.

You are quite entitled to stop your HRT and see another dr. One who knows what they are doing Angry

Blimey, most women have to fight to get their hands on HRT with symptoms. But as others said if you were still having regular periods then you definitely aren’t menopausal.

Did you gp mean to say you are ‘peri’ menopausal rather than ‘post’

It’s ok to be on hrt when you still have periods as long as it is the right formulation for you. Maybe have an appt to discuss with another gp
