Hi, I've tried the Oestrogel and get on great with it, feel v good.

However, I had to stop taking Utrogestan as it made me v depressed.

I think I'm progesterone intolerant, always had terrible PMS and could never get on with any contraceptive pills.

So, I need an alternative for progesterone. A dr friend suggested cyclogest to be taken via the anus.

Can someone advise me how often I need to take this? I had a period this month but before that I went 11 months without h no bleeding.

Hi,can anyone help ? I had my ovaries removed 5 years ago which meant instant menopause and no periods. I was on hrt evorel conti patches for a couple of years but started to get headaches so I came off them. I decided to try and go without hrt however 2 years later I decided I need hrt back in my life! My doctor has given me eastrogel and utrogestan plus I use testosterone which I used in the past which I swear by. I'm really confused though as she said I would have a bleed . I told her I have no ovaries but she said I could still bleed. I can't help but think that she may have this wrong. I haven't bled since having my ovaries taken away and I didn't believe that you could once they are taken out . Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Theresa

@touty you can use Utrogestan as a suppository too. (it's off label as is vaginal use but that's only in the UK- in Europe all 3 methods are licensed- oral, vaginal and anal.)

Cyclogest is another option but it's a synthetic form, not natural / body-identical.

@JinglingHellsBells thank you so much. Is it half the normal dose for anal, also how often do I take progesterone? I'm not quite post menopausal, I had a period last month but before that nothing for 11 months.

Sorry I have no idea of the dose for anal.

I assume the dose is the same though- 2 capsules for 12 days per month.

It's not been entirely agreed by meno consultants that the dose is half for vaginal/ anal use.

Maybe talk to your dr as they are the ones sorting it out for you?
