Recommendations for home test

Hi, has anyone used a home test kit for Menopause and if you have which one and was it helpful?

I've seen that Superdrug have one and I was thinking of ordering it. I'm pretty certain I am either menopause or peri for the reasons below and I want some confirmation of levels so I can help myself.

  • Women in my family tend to go in their early 40s and I'm now mid.
  • I've got a cracker of a Melasma on my forehead (had it for 5 years).
  • I'm in full swing now of the night sweats, hot flushes (my DCs call me their radiator), - I've not had a period for 6 months, and they have been pretty erratic for years.

Unfortunately I am very rural so don't have an option of finding a new GP (mine is soooo bad - believes everything is caused by stress especially if the patient is female) - so I will need to diagnose and self medicate.

Thank you Smile

As I understand it, there is no absolute test. The NHS can test levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) but it's not conclusive, and is only one measure. If you read the NICE guidelines from the pinned thread you'll see that diagnosis is by symptoms.

@Summerhillsquare thank you. That was most informative and I can't believe that information has been around for 6 years. Especially re the unreliability of the blood tests. I was given a blood test 1 year ago by my GP, he used it as proof I couldn't possibly be going through the menopause. So I mistakenly assumed that I needed to get another test now my symptoms are getting more prominent. I'm absolutely raging. I want to print out a stack of the NiCE guidelines and barricade his surgery with them. Ffs how did I not know this

There is NO HOME TEST that shows this- the ones you can buy are a scam.

NICE says treat meno by symptoms in women over 45.

In women under 45, tests are done to rule out anything else and diagnose premature menopause (if it's there.)

You can find masses of info on the website of Dr Louise Newson - look under Resources on the tab. Fact sheets on all of this.

@imaradiator yes, feel the rage. It's just dreadful what we are expected to put up with.
