Mirena plus Oestrogel - is it enough ?

I'm 50, have had a Mirena for 3 years or so, mainly for heavy periods which it has sorted, around 4 months ago I started with Oestrogel, 2 pumps, to try to help with the insomnia, I think it worked a bit but not a miracle if I'm honest.

I'm wondering though, is this enough ?, no hot flushes thankfully, but I'm really bad tempered and generally can't be arsed with stuff which seems to be relatively new in the symptom timeline

has anyone started in a similar position and increased to 'proper' HRT and it has made a difference ? or is Mirena enough and I need to look at the Oestogel amounts. thoughts would be appreciated as I really don't fancy going back to the GP unless it might help.

Hi. I have had Mirena plus estraderm patches for the last eight months and it has been really good. Not perfect but MUCH better - no more palpitations, generally better sleep and next to no night sweats (rather than most nights). Mood more stable too.

Mirena and gel or patch is the gold standard for HRT and any gyne worth their salt would recommend that regime. What do you mean by 'proper'?

It will be the oestrogel, not the mirena that is the issue. Mirena is the gold standard for progesterone- it basically stops the womb lining thickening due to the oestrogen. You can use the mini pill instead with one utrogestan each night if you prefer that (I do) and have the mirena removed. The oestrogel can be increased up to 4 pumps a day (occasionally more) to relieve symptoms. You need to speak to your menopause specialist or see one.
