Livial and hair loss

Has anyone suffered from hair loss after taking Livial please ? I was 3 weeks in to taking it when I noticed a lot of hair in the shower. My hair is wavy/curly so the loose hair was tangling and forming knots. I've never experienced hair loss before and it was very upsetting. I ended up having 2 inches cut off the length. It had also become very dry and frizzy like it was damaged. I had changed my hairdresser and had had highlights put in at the beginning of August, the same time as starting the Livial. It was a reputable salon and surely it wouldn't take 3 weeks to show up any damage and anyway it wasn't breaking off and brittle it was coming from the scalp. I stopped taking the Livial and went to see my Doctor. She said her gut instinct was " it wasn't the Livial ". I had covid quite badly back in May and wondered if that might be the cause ? I had my pfizer vaccs in June and even wondered if that might be the cause too ? Anyway my Doctor advised me to take the Livial again for a couple of weeks and to monitor the hair loss. I continued to lose hair so I stopped again. I am going for a blood test to check b vitamins and magnesium levels next week. The hair loss has slowed down now but hasn't stopped altogether. I am left wondering if it was the Livial because it states it has androgenic effects or if covid caused it and my hair has suffered 3 months down the line.

I'm on Livial and haven't lost any hair from taking it as far as I know.
I had covid March 2020 and lost an inordinate amount of hair during the summer, I think I started losing it about June or July and I thought I'd recovered from Covid though was still fatigued (I hadn't started HRT at the point).
My hair took about five/six months for it to stop falling out in large amounts, and now it's back to normal.
You have my sympathy, it was very upsetting Flowers

I'm not on livia but other HRT and my hair loss is bad. I'm going to contact my GP today.

Thank you for your reply. I heard on the radio today ( BBC radio 2 ) that women are experiencing problems concerning hair dye since having the covid vaccination which is strange because my hair loss started a week after I had my second pfizer vaccine. I think more and more women will come forward with this problem. I have had highlights for years and I've never had a problem before. However this time three weeks later my hair became frizzy, static and started to fall out. This was exactly a week after having my second vaccine. Any thoughts ?

I hope your GP gets to the bottom of it. I was on Activelle and Femoston Conti before Livial and I had no hair loss with them. I'm thinking now that it is more Covid/vaccine related than the Livial but to be honest it's put me right off taking anything now! Hopefully your GP will take full bloods.

Hello Insanity Rocks.
I had Covid in May and my hair started to fall out ( a lot ! ) in July. It sounds a lot like what you went through. I was sick in bed for a couple of weeks. I was nauseous and couldn't keep any food down and also incredibly tired, I slept almost all of the time. I was prescribed steroids. I was left fatigued like you and also a persistent cough and altered taste. The virus really damaged me mentally and physically. It is unfortunate that I started Livial the same day I had my hair highlighted. Three weeks later my hair started to fall out in the shower. I had had my first pfizer vaccine one week before my hair colour and my second vaccine two weeks later. Exactly one week after my hair loss started. My hair became dry, frizzy, static and full of tangles. Thinking about it my scalp also felt itchy and tender like it was burnt. I had a patch test prior to my colour and it was fine. Eight weeks on the hair loss has stopped but I'm none the wiser what caused it which is frightening.

Hi There, Did your hairloss stopped? Are you back on livial?

Dollymary2 · 13/01/2023 19:15

Hi There Dada40,
My hair loss stopped after eight long weeks. I stopped the Livial straightaway after the loss started and I haven't taken it since. Sixteen months on and my hair looks better than ever! That's probably down to the hair supplements I have taken every day religiously plus I have a really good diet so that's definitely helped too. I never found out what caused it, the problem was that it was three months after I caught that horrible virus Delta Covid and I read that after being sick you can lose your hair months afterwards. Then like I said it was three weeks in to taking Livial that the alarming hair loss started so I put two and two together but having said that my Doctor said that her gut instinct was that it wasn't the Livial that caused it but I was too scared to take the risk of restarting it again for fear of more hair loss! The third cause could well have been that I had had the first vaccine of Pfizer one week before my hair highlights. It didn't react at the time and in fact my curly blonde hair looked fab! Two weeks later I had my second vaccine(Pfizer again) and then exactly one week later my hair started to be static and when I had a shower a load of hair fell out, it was terrifying because it was a lot and I have never experienced anything like it before. I went to see my Doctor and she advised stopping the Livial and a couple of weeks later I had to go to the hairdresser and she cut off a couple of inches of hair because with it being curly the loose hair was getting tangled as it fell out causing knots. I had full bloods but they came back fine. Eight weeks on the loss stopped thankfully . After a while I started back on HRT, I am on Divigel gel 1mg and Utrogestan 100mg. It's 50 euro a month but worth it. It's a shame though because the short time I was on Livial I felt good and felt it really suited me. Also, it was much cheaper!!! However even though I am now leaning towards it not being Livial that caused the hair loss after all I would be too afraid to try it again which is a shame. I think it was probably the vaccine and the fact I had highlights done between the shots. I have had two booster shots since but because of the hair loss I asked for the Moderna instead. This caused serious shakes, shivers and tiredness but I wouldnt risk having the Pfizer again! I hope this helps? Please let me know that you have seen this message because I'm a bit unsure how to post properly!
