Nurse told me mirena coil is enough HRT

I asked the Nurse today when talking about changing my mirena coil after 5 years about HRT. I assumed she'd have good advice before I discuss with the Dr tomorrow. She told me the coil provides sufficient hormones and no other HRT would be required. I've recently researched extensively and never heard this before. Has anyone else?

You're correct. The Mirena provides the progesterone part of HRT but you still need additional oestrogen.

That's interesting! I had no idea! I have the mirena. Mid 40s and wondering if I'm perimenopausal. What are possible symptoms of low oestrogen? (Laziness perhaps, given that I could Google this?).

I have a Mirena as part of my HRT - I also have patches and cream. I definitely had menopausal symptoms with the Mirena in (flushes and wizened vag, oh the glamour).

I didn't even realise I had symptoms until watching Davina's documentary after that I realised I'd been feeling crap because I was peri-menopausal. I just thought it was bereavement and lockdown. I found the menopause dr, Louise Newson's website and her balance app very helpful

No, you would need oestrogen as well. I have a Mirena PLUS Oestrogel which I rub in every night.

My friend was told the same thing when she had a mirena fitted after an endometrial ablation Confused. Complete nonsense of course as it only delivers progesterone.
