Hi all. I'm struggling with menopausal weight gain. I've put on 40 pounds since last year.

Hi everyone. hope you are all healthy and safe, especially during this time. in this last year

I've put on 40 lb's. My husband says its just 'covid weight gain', but my diet and exercise routine hasn't changed. I've always

been a healthy weight, and very physically active. Maybe I'm lucky because at the moment my energy levels feel the same.

so I've been able to keep up with the same level of physical activity as before. I've been to the doctors and she told me it is 'just the menopause' and that its 'just going to happen'.

Oh you poor thing :(! I suffered from the exact same issue. Diet and eating habits were identical to what they were before menopause, but I put on so much weight! I hope this works for you, but I highly, HIGHLY, recommend Deborah Murtagh's menopausal weight loss plan.

As other have said, intermittent fasting and many other things can help, and she goes into all of it in such detail. it can be daunting knowing how much more effort you need to put in to stay a healthy weight for some of us during menopause, but having the structure of the weight loss plan really helps ease the burden.

If your diet hasn’t changed then it could be that you (unfortunately) just need fewer calories at the age you are now -although maybe DH has noticed your diet has changed slightly if he’s citing Covid weight gain?
Work out your TDEE here -calories you need to stay as you are, then reduce by 20% for weight loss calories.

Weigh and log everything that passes your lips on My Fitness Pal or similar, (even tea/coffee with milk in, every spread of butter, dash of balsamic or whatever) to see where you are adding unnecessary calories.

If you over eat by 100 calories a day -that’s one slice of bread or a medium sized banana- it adds around 10lbs in a year!

Logging calories has helped me lose so much weight. I’m lighter post menopause than I’ve ever been in my life. I wish I had this figure when I was young and confident to dress showing it off.
