Another fecking UTI

I am not prone to UTIs, one every 3-5 years pre-menopause. But I've had two since April.

Just as well I'm in Scotland where you can get 3 days antibiotics from the pharmacist rather than seeing the GP. But it's sore, stingy, and there's blood. And i'm cheesed off!! Pharmacist said something about seeing the GP for oestrogen cream?

I'm not on HRT and I don't really know what would be going on with my periods as I have had a hysterectomy.

You may need vagifem and replens which has similar symptoms to uti.

I'm thinking I might make an appointment to see the very nice female GP at my practice. I am definitely "dry" and having a lot of hot sweats and flushes. HRT may be the answer.

UTIs were my main menopause symptom. HRT has fixed it. The gynaecologist said "hmm, we need to toughen you up down there". Oh the glamour.

You need Ovestin internal oestrogen cream and Replens on the days you don’t use Ovestin. And then possibly systemic HRT (oestrogel). Have a google of the Newson Health clinic website.

Very informative Twitter thread here on topical oestrogen for UTIs, by a gynaecologist:

Hi @TheGenealogist really sorry for you. I had a few repeated UTIs followed by a horrible kidney stone. Then during lockdown I started getting a really dry vagina. At that point I thought enough is enough and I contacted the GP who diagnosed me with vaginal atrophy and prescribed oestrogen cream. I was really worried about using it (I have health anxiety) but then I watched the davina McCall documentary on menopause (if you've not seen it watch it on catchup). Touch wood the cream seems to be working fine and I've not had a UTI since xx
