Repeat prescription frequency - is this out of order?

Hi
Just wanted to see what ‘normal’ is regarding repeat prescription frequency for longer term medicines. I’m been on fluoxetine for a number of years now and have a 3 month supply repeat prescription from the GP. That’s fine. I’ve just started HRT patches (this took a while but that’s another story!) which seem to be working well and after a couple of months and two GP appointments I am now on a repeat prescription for them too. However they will only give me monthly prescriptions (at £9.25 a go). When I asked why this was, expecting a clinical reason, I was told this is the practice policy for financial reasons (or words to that effect). This seems a tad outrageous to me as friends get 3 month supplies from other GPs in the same county. Any thoughts or advice please? I’ve yet to talk to the GP who is the fund holder, so some nuggets of guidance or policy would be helpful. Thanks.

My dh has 3 items on prescription and they all have to be ordered monthly. You could buy a prepayment certificate to lower your costs
