Utrogestan: anyone getting this through the NHS in Scotland

Have been researching the right HRT for me, and thinking it is likely to include Utrogestan. But there seems to be information around about this being hard to get in Scotland..

Anyone got any experience with this?

I've had utrogestan through NHS Scotland for a couple of years now, and pick up 3 months' worth at a time - haven't had any problems with supply. I'd be interested to hear if it's becoming an issue though.

Thanks @Superjaggy

The issue seems to be that the SMC (a committee which approves drugs for NHS use in Scotland based on economic data) didn't approve utrogestan for general use as HRT. But browsing around it looks like a a few trusts have put it on their formularies anyway.

Thanks. I'm in Grampian and had to work quite hard to persuade my GP to let me go to oestrogel + utrogestan but supply has never been an issue.

I've been prescribed it recently in Ayrshire and Arran. GP said she couldn't prescribe it first line for me, that technically I would have to have a trial of a synthetic first. I said I'd had bad experiences of synthetics with birth control in the past and didn't want to so she contacted our nearest meno clinic to get approval for my request from the doctors there. GP was excellent in supporting my choice while keeping to her guidelines. Seems to be a bit of a lottery on being prescribed it though, I've heard some people have been point blank refused in some places. HTH
